Mesoam
O ok. Was the instructor downshifting for you? yep, i kept putting my hand on the shifter and this stopped me the bmw was only offered with their slush box and the full auto mode was useless, no paddles either It looks like Travis's instructor had the "O" face, and his fiance was smiling while her instructor was calm. Interesting. She is not driving in that photo, she did a taxi lap with the instructor. My instructor was constantly feeding me information as most corners are completely blind so the only way to go fast is to constantly follow their direction. There is obviously a huge level of trust, I know he's done 1000's of laps and could drive the track blind but coming into a corner at 100mph only knowing what he's telling you is rather terrifying and yet exciting. They let you rent the cars without instructors but there would be no way to have any sort of speed without the knowledge of the track

JoshV70
Anyone know who this is? It was at Euro Auto Festival at BMW HQ in SC yesterday. That yellow wagon is Randy's from Virginia. He's not active on the forum but frequents Carlisle and EuroFest. Probably the cleanest yellow wagon around. As for the 480 Turbo, that is probably the one that was on eBay about a year ago. Burn-E
They let you rent the cars without instructors but there would be no way to have any sort of speed without the knowledge of the track What did the rental + instructor cost you? I'm going to be making at least 2 or 3 trips to Düsseldorf over the next year and I want to do a detour to the Ring on one of them.

Brad850
i'm thinking about buying a serious radar detecter and placing it somewhere completely inconspicuous. Been searching a bit on here. Does anyone have any current recommendations? I drive like a granny most times, but it'd be nice to have one that works well. Looking at passports at the moment, although I would like to find one that doesn't need to be mounted in the middle of the windshield in order to be effective. Looking at passports at the moment, although I would like to find one that doesn't need to be mounted in the middle of the windshield in order to be effective. There's more or less two models: the window mount that we all know, and remote (aka hidden) setups. I don't think there's anything under $700 for remote. And the window mounts all function on generally the same principles. This means mounting location considerations are generally the same. There are plus/minuses for each location. You can mount it high on the windshield up to the tinted strip, where it allegedly compromises reception (I've never seen data on this, but that's what the instructions say). And you go low, as they often aim laser at license plates or headlights, but trade off a bit of reception when obstructed by another car.Bottom line, there really isn't way to do an inconspicuous window-mount IMO. The best you could get is tucked up in the top left corner of the window, and hardwired. BEL is Escort in a different piece of plastic. And the V1 and Escort/BELs are debated in the same way the best motor oil is. Decision factors include: is laser used heavily in your area, and do you think you can benefit from detecting it, do you realllllyyyy neeeedd the arrows? They're neat, but do you think they'll affect your decisions. And do you need GPS-lock out or speedtrap databases.
