When it's the same people who chastised us for having a kid without being married....I still bought them tickets but it amazes me when people stand by their church and when they turn a blind eye towards the teachings...

John, much like there are Orthodox and Reformed Jews there are Mormons of various stripes as well. You seem to have encountered some of our more fundamental adherents which doesn't surprise me given they are living in Utah. Allow me to apologize at least for the rude behavior of my fellow members.  I am regularly baffled by how brain dead some of them can be.

Again didn't mean anything towards you. I know there's assholes and hypocrites in every corner. Going from the very liberal area of DC/MD/VA to SLC was a pretty big shock to me in terms of culture and attitudes.

I was curious and started reading into this. The LDS church does not allow for gambling however they do accept tithing from stocks and investments.

Aren't those a form of gambling (playing the devils advocate here)

It's a funny situation Kevin.  Your average member would shrug their shoulders.  As a member of a Bishopric in our local congregation I would respond that it's probably not the best use of funds but how is that $10 spent on a fun fantasy any different from a movie or putting money in a March Madness bracket or a fantasy football pool?

As for your argument, it depends on how you view investing.  The guys at FanDuel and FantasyKings would agree with you that what they do is no different from investing since it requires a fair amount of skill and research to be successful.  Meaning that it is less a game of chance.

However, when it turns out that someone at FanDuel has their thumb on the scales as it were suddenly you're no longer dealing with skill but instead weighted games of chance where the house wins more often thanks to adjustments made to  benefit them.

Where Wall Street is tilting the game in favor of their own traders it does become more a game of chance but it's long been recognized by most investors as the best form of "legalized gambling."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wouldn't it be more important to see it as a vice, not to be abused? A little money's fine, but greed is bad? A little risk with your money is okay, but if you gamble away your family's money, that's a bad move. I guess I'm wondering if the text actually prohibits certain acts, or if it is all interpretation of practicing the overarching beliefs.

Did some pulls with a Scooby in the GVR4 on the way home from the store and my clutch slipped on the last pull.
I'm thinking I might as well turn the 16G I recently got in to 20G and throw a beast clutch in it now.

In other words spirit of the law vs letter of the law.  That is the substance of pretty much every debate in theology.

With a 20G I can just buy the chra with compressor cover for $450-500 and reuse my old hot-side. Also looking at Turbolab they can "rebuild" it in to a 20G for around $350.
951 broke... again. Sometime this year it will be sold for some other project. I really want a Z20 Soarer.

You live in Canada you have sooooo much more available. Evo V-VI's, R34's,  X100 Chasers, WC34 Stageas, come on it's a Skyline GTR wagon! The list goes on and on and on and on. I wish we had your 15 year law.

I've noticed that in person, or in youtube videos, chiropractors and personal fitness coaches frequently use the medical terms for all the different bones, tendons, etc. I haven't seen the same level of use by MD's. Maybe it's because the chiros and personal fitness crowd haven't had the residency training that an MD got, where they had to practice the terms every day. To stay sharp, maybe they use it in every day conversation. But the cynic in me says it's a subtle, perhaps subconscious, attempt to make them sound authoritative.
