I bet it's all code for electronically enhanced to sound better/different, jag does it, even has speakers in the car dedicated to altering in cabin exhaust noise.

Maybe Steve Ghostshadow can chime in, he's had just about everything come through his shops

I think that's in many cars are doing the electronically-enhanced exhaust. But they're also using butterfly valves to alter the sound on demand. See below how two of the tips have vacuum controlled valves. It'd be real easy to operated it with an electronic solenoid. And in BMW's case, apparently controlling that solenoid with Bluetooth instead of running a wire to the back of the car. I think Corvette and Ferrari have been doing it for a while. Porsche does it too. Is there an industry name for this type of feature? I want to call it a variable exhaust valve, but that has too much overlap with cylinder exhaust valves.

And let's be honest. We're talking about the new 3.0 turbo.. Not the best sounding thing BMW has ever made.

Wait, maybe you can eq the sound of the exhaust on your stereo...

BMW active sound uses microphones in the engine bay to pipe sound into the speakers, usually 3-4% of the noise you're hearing is from this system. It cannot be EQ'ed or altered, it's true engine noise and not synthesized (looking at you, Audi)

Kevin, Sarcasm is completely lost on you. You are now officially a dealership robot.

And, like I and Gabe have stated.. Its fucking stupid.

Who the fuck wants engine noise from the engine bay? Most people want to hear the exhaust note..Not the engine bay noise.

BMW has used an "active" exhaust as far back (maybe further back..?) as the E46.  I was helping with a manual swap on a 325i and it had a vacuum-actuated solenoid in the muffler.  Electronic eliminates the need for a long vacuum line, that's a definite positive.

This is nothing new. You could buy electric and vac. Controlled setups from Summit etc for years. I remember a kid in my highschool auto shop in the 80s fucking around with solenoid flappers.

I want a car that sounds good all the time.

Not quiet and loud.. Or ok and then "racecar".

But, hey, whatever blows your hair back.

since it's not my job or anything

Exactly. It IS your job to talk about BMW. That's the main reason we shouldn't listen.

and again, you can't stop the propaganda.. yet you don't even own or drive one.

Just like a politician.
