theForgottenone
Seem like the BMW genius is not doing their expected job. Too bad Kevin can't work everywhere. http://www.autoblog.com/2016/05/23/bmw-i3-range-extender-lawsuit-supports-teslas-store-argument/ The lawsuit was filed in California by some owners of the BMW i3 REx, i.e. the version that's equipped with a gas-powered "range extender," according to Green Car Reports. The issue is that, when the car's battery starts running low and the powertrain is subjected to extended stress, such as a long uphill highway stretch or a fully loaded vehicle, the car can slow from highway speeds to as slow as 45 miles per hour without warning. The claim states that the vehicle can post a danger as a result, while BMW has declined comment, citing pending litigation.Meanwhile, Tom Moloughney, owner of the first BMW i3 REx to be sold in the US, says the problem might rest at the dealership level. Moloughney says that if dealers explained the car's mechanics better – especially the fact that the range extender is essentially a 34-horsepower, two-cylinder motorcycle engine whose power is limited – drivers would be better informed about what could happen when the battery power is sapped at highway speeds. While Tesla EVs don't have the same sort of REx powertrain, this argument nicely dovetails with what Tesla Motors has been saying for a long time, that its cars should only be sold at company-owned stores because third-party dealers are less likely to understand and explain the nuances of electric vehicles. If people read their owners manuals you would be out of a job, BMW would not need "geniuses" to explain this stuff to people Besides have you ever, yourself sat down with your owners manual and read it front to back? And the same goes for them, if people read their manuals and learned how thing worked they would be more of genius tech support. Plus apple geniuses are way more technical than just breaking things down so the layman can understand. Nobody is bagging on the little guy (this time at least) Just pointing out to him that if people read their owners manuals, he wouldn't have a job because that is what he is there for. But seriously in this day and age who actually buys a car and sits down to read the owners manual?

But seriously in this day and age who actually buys a car and sits down to read the owners manual? I don't think anyone reads the manual for anything - I like to, but I'm probably in the small group. That being said I'm sure that there are some people, that even if they read the manual, couldn't understand / make anything of it and those are the people the Genius crowd help. Some people also prefer customer service / human support as well. I think it's ironic that BMW, a brand supposedly all about the driving experience and performance, needs a Genius in the dealership. The whole brand is kind of built on 'those that know' or the enthusiasts like you and I who read manuals and yet I'm willing to bet Kevin has a job because the brand is so damn diluted and distracted that 80% of customers are of the clueless, confused, badge-and-status-obsessed crowd

I would say somewhere around 30% of my customers read their entire owners manual before coming back in for their second delivery Encore service. Keep in mind, the average age of a new BMW owner is mid to late 40's so they have a different mentality than us younger kids. Also, I've read my entire 850 owners manual several times. And the C30s 1 hour ago, ruecatinat said: Doesn't seem like he likes them either at the rate he accumulates Volvos hey, nice used Volvo's are cheap. BMW's....not so much! Even an employee lease on a 228 is in the 3-400's which I just can't justify as an extra expense. i3 leases are dipping into the low $100's so I might scoop one up later in the year with December incentives
