850's get totaled pretty easily these days, its in most cases it's cheaper for them to just cut you a check than invest the extra time to deal with getting it fixed

That is what I am afraid of. Adjuster called just now, they are getting to torn down tomorrow morning and will have an estimate done for me tomorrow.... we will see.

If they total it and there's no frame damage then why should you care Dave? They're going to cut you a check and you have the option to buy it back for substantially less than they're going to give you. Then you can get the car repaired, insured and life goes on.

I once considered buying a V70 with branded title as salvage and called up my insurer to see if there would be any issues in getting it insured. The response was, no problem, as long as the car is safely rebuilt we'll insure it. Now, the reality is in the details there - will they pay you to repair it again if it gets damaged? That's the question I would ask. But they will insure the car in case it causes damage to anything else.

Whatever you do, make sure you understand how YOUR State regulates auto insurance and what they require of insurance companies. Go check out the department of insurance's website or whatever it's called in MD.

Odds are it's totaled. The cars aren't worth shit. They will offer around 2-3k. Then you just buy it back.

I just brought mine back. All they did was take the $500 deductible and $500 for buying the car back out of the check they cut me. Downside is I now have a salvage title but I don't really care about that.

In GA you just fix the car and call out a Trooper they look it over and sign off on it.

Dave talk to Brian. His old c70 was hit and totaled. He bought it back and fixed it, then it was hit again. IIRC he actually made money off of the deal...

As for my S70 deer incident; I drove it over 2 years and paid $950 for it. Then the deer incident; after the deductible and buy back I had $2,700 in my pocket. They made that offer and I was like "Sounds great."

Plus I sold a good bit of stuff locally off of it and made more money. So in short drove it for 2 years and got paid 3 times what I paid for it, not bad. :)

The manual R is going to be a s..l..o..w rebuild.

if you're going to buy back and own a salvage car, i'd be prepared to keep it for a while....i think they make good project car bases though especially if its just something light like daves

I plan on buying it back, the trick is to get it legal to be insured and not have much down time for me.

Can't easily tell if you can drive/insure a car in that salvage-title state -- I did read for VA you can't take it on the highway, but I don't know about other roads.

Either way, highway being important, you might want to get this lined up: http://www.dmv.state.va.us/vehicles/#salvehlawreq/repaired_rebuilt.asp

//edit: looks like it has to be done by someone with a rebuild license?
