I'm going to sit down and talk with her father more about this and get some solid numbers and I'll most likely go to work for him. Changing jobs this much in a year just feels wrong to me thats all, it would be the 5th job I left in the last year. For 6 years before that i worked for the same company. I just want to be sure the next job is going to be the last job change for a long time.

I passed up an apprenticeship 20 years ago with a friend who is a plumber. I regret it all the time. The funny thing is the guy who wound up apprenticing with him rents space in our shop for his own plumbing business now.

Don't look at it as just a job for now. the numbers may not look good to start..it's what it will be in 5 or 10 years when you can go on your own

Just got a job offer from my girlfriends dad to come on as an aprentice electrician... also got offered a job as an assistant manager for the detailing company im working for currently. I have no clue which is going to be better to go for. I have got about a week to make decision.

I'm an electrician, is it a union gig? If so what local? Either way I'd prob go the electric route even if it's non union, feel free to PM me any questions

Oh yeah and I'm covered in tattoos, and my sleeves have never cost me a job opportunity or promotion ;)

I don't know if regular electrician stuff translates over to linesman jobs, but linesman seem to enjoy their career quite a bit. From the people I've talked to, solid pay plus big money on over time. The catch is that you work every shitty weather day. But they make enough that their eyes twinkle when they watch the gloom-and-doom weather reports.

I'm not going to get into my salary and benefits and what not, I will say though the linesmen don't make that much more and it's exponentially more dangerous, you are making yourself, basket and helo part of a circuit pushing thousands of amps

Funny you guys bring up the linesmen. They are working right across the highway from my house right now. They flew a few guys in this morning and have been bringing in new power poles and equipment all morning. Pretty neat watching these skilled helo pilots maneuvering along the hillside between the tress and mountains.

In the comments below, I like the statement "you want Cheap, Fast and reliable. But you can only choose 2"
