Ol' Dirty Noodle
We make some of the most efficient vehicles in the world in regards to power, weight efficiency, and lack of production waste. So you build the BMWs but can't replace a Volvo cam seal????

Kevin.
You're doing it wrong; drink more liquid. And holy propaganda. But I guess the German's are very experienced with that.I read a news article last week (of course I can't find it now) that stated that a sign that you are very happy with your company and believe in what it stands for when you refer to it as "we" as opposed to "my company"I'm proud that I work for BMW, what can I say? They got me going career wise and I have never been happier!
gilber33
I know the words good gas mileage and volvo and rarely used in the same sentence, but since I never really owned a stock 850 or x70 that had a complete stage 0, anyone getting close to at least 30 mpg on pure highway with one? theForgottenone
I actually love the GTi BMW's aren't for everyone, just like how Volvo's aren't for everyone. We make some of the most efficient vehicles in the world in regards to power, weight efficiency, and lack of production waste. Historically, BMW has been a major player in the premium car market and is known to make some of the better made and handling vehicles in the world. There are lots of things wrong with these cars, just like all of the other brands. I promise I pee yellow just like the rest of all of joooooHave you read the jan 2015 motor trend article? They tested and biggest gripe on i3 is the handling performance of .8g lateral. Quite unconventional for bmw.i wonder those 2 Series owner must have lot of cash to shell out near $50k cars that don't have power seat, no navigation, Bluetooth, no backup camera. gilber33
on the NA 5spd 850 I did it once actually driving to Kevin's to get partsThat's depressing. Looks like the 1st Gen x40 can get around 30 on the highway. Katherine wants me to stay in a volvo for safety, trying to avoid a late 90s toyota or saturn. Timbo Slice
When I did intake and exhaust on my x40 I legitimately got 36mpg on a few highway trips, one even hitting 38.

My preference if in were to stay in a volvo for a commuter would be one of the 1st Gen x40s.
Ol' Dirty Noodle
Yea I didn't mention it cuz you asked about 5cyl but the S40 kills it, heavy mods driving like an asshole mostly city I do around 27.2mpg most weeks When i reset everything before Carlisle I a arranged 34.5mpg there and back Edited June 6, 2015 by Ol' Dirty Noodle
gilber33
I only mentioned 5cyl because there was one I was considering, but I've found a couple V40s that look good. One has the p0015 code that from what I read, they all get and can be a bitch to figure out.

It's for the VVT hub and it sounds like these engines are notorious for running hot and prone to sludge and causes the VVT hub to get poor oil pressure and triggering the cel. I'm looking at one with 64k miles tomorrow. 2003, silver on tan, comes with factory bbs wheels and another set of oem wheels with winter tires. Rebuilt title for an accident damaging the trunk, but repaired by a guy who buys volvos from insurance companies and fixes them.

I'm pretty anal with maintenance, 2k Mille OCI, full synthetic, cleaned most of the block out when I did the PCV. I think that's why you see a lot of these cars die, people got them and treated them like Hondas and either drove them into the ground or til the cost of repair was more than they were willing to spend. A lot I've seen are either "our daughter took it to college..." "I had my elderly mom/dad driving it" in either case it's been neglected.
