It fits the definition of 'back yard body work.'

from wikipedia:

While production of the standard Beetle continued, a Type 1 variant called the Super Beetle, produced from model year 1971 to 1979 (1302s from 1971 to 1972, and 1303s from 1973 onwards), offered MacPherson strut front suspension, better turning radius (despite having a 20 mm (3/4 in) longer wheelbase), and approximately double the usable space in the front luggage compartment, due to the stretched "nose" of the vehicle and relocation of the spare tire from a vertical to a horizontal position. The Super Beetle was improved in 1973 to include a different dashboard shape (the padded dashboard appears on some 1302s models also) and a more aerodynamic curved windshield for more driver visibility.

Engine was stock, 36 hp. Torque was what saved it, even with kids in the car.

I bought it for a song in Georgia, towed it back down and rebuilt it. I made the mistake of leaving the bodywork and paint to a shop that closed down two weeks after I got the car back. By the time I was able to bring it back for them to re-do, the owner had retired and skipped town.

It's a super b/c it has a curved windshield, independent front suspension and other small details that differentiate it from the original beetles.

Excellent Aircooled Site

That's one crazy Scion. Hope its not still FWD. Did you go to SEMA?

Based on how it's mounted I'd say it's RWD. ;) It's a Tundra engine so I bet they just pulled everything.

I didn't go to SEMA, but AFAIK I'm still eligible. I've actually never been, though I have been to CES before.
