Serge
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_sludgeWiki says that the Intrepid's engine (car mentioned in the original post) has issues with engine sludge, but only goes to 2002 (original post says it's a 2003). Might just be that the engine is prone to it.
Tin Box
Won't touch Castrol, used to use it when we stocked it in bulk and it almost cost me several motors. Typically the oil pressure would drop off noticeably with heat / load....like from 60 running to in some cases below 20 after about 500 miles. Happend to me with a 2130 142E, a 1275 Cooper S, a number of customer Jaguars...switched to valvoline / Quaker State and pressure returns with no drop over time. Mobil 1 is fantastic if a little pricy. Have had very good results with the Penrite oils on vintage cars.

Ride R
I use only "German" Castrol 0-30 in my R, in oil analysists it comes out better than mobile 1. I also use Klotz 2 cycle in my Quad Racer.

Ride R
Why so light? That's the consensus of the guys on Swedespeed, i can't dig up the exact link but they say it is some of the best oil out there for the R. It's supposedly a very thick 30 weight when warm and acts more like a 40, yet doesn't deteriorate nearly as badly as mobil

Screw wear. I'm more worried about ping. Also 10w30 is insanly light oil.

stick70
oil article Found an article recently, i think it pertains to this. Seems to have a bit of motorcyle information in it but does seem to have some useful information.
