I did a few little things on a friend of fam V70 a while ago, told them not to pay, I actually had the parts (dist cap, plugs, oil cap seal, oil return line seal)

They sent me a bottle of Johnny Blue :D

Honestly, time is money......it's great that they want to show their appreciation in that way. I'd say $50 - $100, more towards $50. You did try to turn down the offer, which was your only obligation.

I've helped Mike with I don't know how many things and never asked for a penny. There have also been a few times where his parents were going to have the dealer perform tasks where just as anything else I offered to help.

There's nothing wrong with accepting gratitude as long as you're asking farrrr under what they'd spend to begin with. In my opinion of course.

IIRC They insisted on paying me $50 for a PCV job and $50 to install a rebuilt alternator with improper pulley spacing.

I'm a little late but........

Tuesday my power steering pump bearing was howling like a werewolf so a used unit went in to replace it along with fresh ATF.

Thursday the tires got rotated and a Volvo oil filter went in, along with completing my switch to Castrol GTX High Mileage 10w40. As far as I can tell in the little amount of time the car's been run motor noise has lessened and I haven't noticed the bottom of my trans. having a glossy look to it. Damn tender RMS, with Castrol Edge 10w30 it was allowing roughly a quart every 5K miles to get out. The new oil has also seemed to near eliminate the little quick puff of blue smoke I see when I restart while the motor's warm.

With the overtime starting at work I will be getting a brand new set of roof strips, I'm tired of having to dye mine and it needing redone every so often, I want them to look as smooth as the mirror trim. $120/per :o

Also going to grab a brand new antenna base soon to replace my ugly faded one. $20 bucks B) I think I'm the only person in 12 years to inquire about that part. Brian in parts likes my parts requests.

This is the 3rd or 4th time I've done work on their car (for free). They like giving me money for some reason. When I decline they insist. Then we get into one of those awkward circles where I keep declining and they keep insisting. Anyways, I think I'll just tell them to give me $100 and call it even. I had to drive to the dealer 25 minutes away TWO times today for parts (they didn't want to wait for me to order them online). That should cover gas, plus the 5 hours I spent working outside in the annoying humidity dripping with sweat.

Okay, backstory makes being paid justifiable. Maybe ask for a gas card or some kind of gift certificate. At least you declined more than a couple of times. Sounded a bit different initially.

Cleaned the wheel wells. Applied some rubber undercoating to a few spots that seemed a little thin/weak.

Cleaned up the wheels a little and threw them back on.

Yeah, I don't like the color. dry.gif

Worked on the handbrake shoes and got rid of the squeaking, fixed up a tiny bit of rust on the fender and finished up the stone chips on the hood........ I also dinged one of my wheels with the jack  (stupid me). Now I just have to wait to pick up some touch up paint from the dealer, to cover up the rust paint on the fender.

After that, all it will need is a wash, wax and quick vacuum, and she'll be ready for Carlisle. :)

That reminds me, I need to raise my boost.

What are you raising it to?? I'm just throwing the MBC wide open. (Worse case, the ECU will get pissed and fuel-cut, but the tune should fix that.) I'm really interested to see how far that 15G can go before it reaches the max turbine pressure. (Without having compressor surge, anyways.)

some people have said that 98 t5ms have no fuel cut at WOT..... (so dont do that)

i ran a MBC (13-14 psi) on my stock t5m for 10 months with no tune or exhaust...just had some homade intake, managed a 14.1 @ 102 on that setup...

and if your getting a 98 t5m it has a 16t not a 15g.

Any pics?

Basically it's too dark, too close to primer gray. It has a ice shine to it (even before being buffed/polished) but on a white car, bright silver probably works better than gunmetal.

I'll have them media blasted and will redo them when I change tires.

Edit: found a couple of other pics in my phone:
