Darts

I've been playing in the HDPA Hoboken Dart Players Association this whole semester out at the bars in town. Having a blast now that I have a legitamit reason to go get hammered every Tuesday night!

Anyone else play?

What darts do you throw?

Favorite game?

I'm throwing BadAss 23grams with long shafts and Ruthless Green eye flights. I'm loving the setup right now, but I'm getting a bit of tailspin so thinking of dropping it down to medium shafts.

And I'm loving 301 currently, I've been nailing double 16s to get in and been getting out pretty decently as well, so thats always fun.

I love me a game of darts. There used to be a local bar that served pitchers (extremely rare in my town). At the time, my best friend and I were unemployed. So... we would hit this bar 4 times a week. We'd order pitchers and throw darts. I got pretty good, but don't get to play much anymore so my level of play has gone down. I still prefer Cricket - in order. 301 and 501 are always enjoyable, but double-in - double-out. Now foosball, that's still my #1 parlor game.

Yea, still in college.. well working Co-Op currently, but I still got the young blood flowing through me so I'm able to still get up at 6:15am after getting back from the bar at 1am  Fun times. My frat brothers and I have a team with 10 of us on it, and we are currently ranked second in the B leauge. The A leauge is absolutely rediculous, but we are planning on moving up to it next year, not sure if everyone on the team is going to be able to cut it though :(

As per double in double out, thats 301. Double out only is 501. They used to play a double out 1001 where 5 players rotate in order to settle a tie in the league, but they got rid of that about a year ago... :(

We can get pitchers at most of the bars here, but they usually run specials for the players so it works out best to just run a tab and do whatevers on tap. Works out to only like 15$ a night, which ain't bad in a town where a yueng on tap costs at least 3$

I have never played in a league, so whomever gets the darts from the bar-hag makes the rules. For us, 301/501, it's double-in, double-out. Maybe I will try to explain to my buddies that doubling-in in 501 is a no-no. It may makes things easier on me. I've never tried 1001. I assume we would all be too drunk to hit the board come 901.

Darts are hugely popular around here in the dive bar scene. Used to hang out at a bar full of old rednecks that served GOOD ice cold beer for dirt cheap and the old timers tought me how to play darts. Good times.

The few dive bars I have been able to locate in Hoboken all prefer Beer Pong/Beirut to darts. I suspect its for the quick alcoholic intakes panty removal properties, but thats just speculation . Theres this one on Washington Street I go to every now and then when their having beirut tounaments. Free entry if you call on the right day, 10$ pitchers which last a game, if you win it take 5 games. And the winner gets a set of box tickets to a Yankee game.

Never did win. Lost in the finals a couple times over the summer tho.

I think our definitions of "dive bars" aren't the same. The places I would go are hole in the wall bars(one used to have a dirt floor until the late 90s) and a pitcher of ice cold yeungling is about 4 bucks. :)

The bar I frequent most is considered a "dive" by local standards, but it's just been around a long time and maintains a "rustic" persona. Every other bar is trying to go upscale, but they never get it right. Sure, the prices are "upscale", but the decor is IKEA and the patrons are still guido wannabes. Not only does my favorite bar have darts, but they also have billiards, foosball and shuffleboard. On top of all that, when I start my tab no matter how much I drink it's always $15-20. I guess frequenting the same place for a decade gets you that kind of treatment. I'm getting thirsty, and feeling competitive in nature...

I played darts in the Southbridge (MA) dart league for about 8 years...I was captain of the team for 6 of those years. We played one game of 601 (3 people per team) 2 games of cricket (2 players per team) and 4 games of 301 (one on one)

We were the perenial champions, and never lost a championship! The team still exists, but plays for another bar these days. I quit when I moved further away...I didn't want to drive drunk every tuesday night! (and thursdays too, which was "practice" night)

My Volk darts are in the car now, although I haven't played in several years
