matt1122
Sorry, but I disagree that CNN is putting that spin on this.I feel they are trying to make the neighborhood out to be the innocent victims here.
WhiteT5
And in turn, making the pizza guy look like the bad guy... because he fired shots to protect himself.
J0E
Should have shot the other one who got away as well. Did he at least keep the pizza for himself?
Serge
Robbers got what they deserved. I like how CNN put emphasis on "semi-automatic" as-if it's something out of the ordinary. Bet you lots of housewives are watching and are freaking about thinking "how could someone have a semi-automatic weapon!!!11".
caanglin
Robbers got what they deserved.Agreed. Speaking of CNN, I took a tour of it Thursday.
drlava
The robbers probably acted like they had guns in their pockets and the pizza guy was within his rights. It does seem like they are putting a spin on it 'all guns are bad' type of mentality.Think the guy who got away will think twice before robbing someone again? I think so. They basically just reported what happened and didn't seem biased to either the delivery guy or the robbers. If anything they acted like the residents were the victims as was already mentioned. The only thing that was a bit odd was just at Serge said, they seemed to make the semi-automatic a big deal. The lesson here is drivers carry less than $20 and will pop a cap in your punk ass if you try anything. magicaljake
oh i hate stuff like that..... just because he was defending himself....oh it makes me angry and i was getting the vibe that because a gun was involved, the owner was the bad guy
matt1122
I like how CNN put emphasis on "semi-automatic" as-if it's something out of the ordinary. It does seem like they are putting a spin on it 'all guns are bad' type of mentality.and i was getting the vibe that because a gun was involved, the owner was the bad guyIf they were trying to spin it, they would have added commentary about how the number of shots fired could indicate that the shooter intended to kill his target, or something else to that effect. Also, listen to the terms used to refer to the pizza guy and the robbers, which clearly implicate the robbers as the bad guys.CNN is reporting the facts and focusing on the effect the shooting has had on the community. This is the most important aspect of the story, and also the part of the story which is most likely to affect their viewers. Think back to when you were a little kid. If you looked out the window and saw the pizza guy shoot and kill someone, how would that have affected you? The fact that the pizza guy is the good guy is irrelevant in this story. What's important is the effect the violence has on the community. If you don't get it, go read through some psych journals. Look for articles about trauma and the effect violence has on children who witness it.Moving to political. TM850R
They never mentioned what the other suspect was carrying. Could have been a knife or something else deadly. I really didnt see a twist on it. If there really was a twist on it, the neighborhood people that were interviewed would have said something bad about the pizza guy. WhiteT5
They never mentioned what the other suspect was carrying. Could have been a knife or something else deadly. I really didnt see a twist on it. If there really was a twist on it, the neighborhood people that were interviewed would have said something bad about the pizza guy. They forgot to mention that a gun was found at the scene, from other written reports I've read. And yes, the neighborhood people that saw nothing are victims, sure. And while CNN does not directly say so, they imply that the pizza guy made them victims because of his vigilante-like behavior, and had the robbery been successful, everything would've been just fine for the neighborhood. The pizza guy just highlighted the fact that there was a problem, that would've otherwise gone mostly unnoticed. News agencies can report whatever facts they want. The fact that they pick and choose only some of the facts, and say them in a certain way, can have significant impact upon the opinions that their viewers form from the stories. A more conservative agency (haha) might have the story go something like this: Two men, one of which was armed, attempted to rob a pizza delivery guy last night. The delivery guy shot and killed one of the robbers, while the other escaped. They then might go knocking on doors interviewing people until they find some guy that's glad there is one less scumbag roaming the streets now, commending the delivery guy for his work. End of story. Most people hearing that story would form a hell of a lot different opinions from the people who watch CNN.Also, by stating one of the robber's ages, an irrelevant fact, they tried to paint a picture of a pizza delivery guy completely lacking any sort of compassion for what some might presume is just a troubled youth. It's just too bad he didn't shoot the other robber.

It's just too bad he didn't shoot the other robber. You are really reaching with this. I don't see how you keep coming up with the delivery guy as the bad guy here. You seem to be the only one who sees it this way. Are you a Dominos driver yourself? All news sources state age if it is known. They have done this for at least the last 30 years and probably well before that.
