BurgerBob
What can the C30 be tuned with though? Considering there's so little on the market for it right now, you'd have to do most of your own work...not that that's a bad thing, but by the time you made your car as fast as the srt-4, he'd have done 10 upgrades. WhiteT5
The Dodge Caliber is monkeyugly. That should settle the debate.
northmiler89
i would take a v2 c30 over a srt4 caliber any day. All the mags so far agree that they should bring back the neon. The new srt4 is creative, but just cant touch the neon..the srt4 WILL BE faster. Hands down. If it had a LSD and 300hp like they proposed maybe it would be alright.. but it NEEDS an lsd. Both cars are not really selling well. At least not in New England..If the c30 only had some more sporty looking, bolstered seats it would be pretty sick. That and if the damn turbo and manifold werent together. That was just a move. And not just any tuner shop can tune your c30. I havent seen any Unichip stuff for it yet. I doubt that anyone is going to open source it, but im sure RICA will have a shitty generic tune sooner than later.
northmiler89
Dec. '07 Car and Driver did an article relating the C30 T5 to the new Caliber SRT-4 (as well as MS3 and New WRX).i didnt really like C&Ds review.. the ms3 and c30 have the same brakes and the ms3 outbraked it by 20+feet from 70-0.. something seems fishy about that. I mean, im pumped.. could care less, but I think there are a few discrepencies here or there.. I went through all the test sheets and they obviously dont talk to manufactures about shift points or launch techniques.. It is just a few guys that have been doing tests for years and they go out and dick around with some equiptment.. Alot of times they open it up to peoples friends and stuff to do the testing, so you really dont see these cars at their best.. the c30 did beat the srt4 in the test though. I think that is correct.i think we need to add about a second to some peoples time claims on here. the caliber srt4 is supposed to be a tick slower than the neon version, and the best i've seen out of a neon srt4 (modded) at the track is 13.9. NO WAY IN HELL will that caliber srt4 run remotely close to a 12.9. they're quick.... but not that quickoh and they will go sub 13 pretty easy. And modded neon srt4s are into the 10s.. there are low 12 second neons all over the place here.
97Rwagon
I saw a video of the new srt4 on the qaurter mile running repeatedly 12.9 and 12.8. I cant find it now though. So even if the new SRT4 does run 14s... would that be all more reason the C30 has potential to be faster?

Higher priced car, they may have spent that extra $$ on a more free flowing exhaust and stronger materials giving you less room for improvement with aftermarket parts. I dont see why it couldnt be though. Sub 13 isnt that fast and could most likely be done with just some bolt ons and traction.

I wish the local performance shops could set up a map for me. All they tell me to do is drop a 350 in there. As far as a downpipe and catback...that's power, but not a lot. I think IPD has some upgrades, but by the time any C30 owner did his mods, he would still be beaten by an srt-4. Shoot the srt-4's around here murder me. And I would murder the 'fast' c30's I've seen. But, after making this rant, I realized I've been thinking of the neon srt-4's. Maybe you could take a caliber...depends on how many mods it has in comparison to the neon.

I had my 850 dynoed there and the guys said they've done custom maps for all kinds of different cars including a volvo that belonged to an old employee. I agree that the exhaust by itself isn't too much power, but with a proper tune- I think you should be able to get some pretty respectable numbers out of a C30.
