Johann, tell me about your car trailer? Does the V70 actually haul it when it's loaded with a car? I just bought a 16' aluminum car hauler a little over a month ago.

Is does very well.

IMG_6543-border.jpg

total load is close to 2000 kgs..

Max speed on our highways is 90 km/h as of May this year, used to be 80 km/h. Trailer runs smooth at speeds up to 100 km/h and that is as fast as I go with this combination.

Have been driving the SD-C a lot lately. Great fun but pretty stiff car to drive..

I think for now I have come to a point where the power as it is OK for the time being. 0-100 km/h is possible in 5 seconds but not recommended if if one likes to keep the driveshafts in one piece. 80-120 km/h within 3 seconds (Flying starting at ~75 km/h) 100-200 km/h in 11 seconds. Top speed not measured yet, ~235 km/h so far although I believe I have taken it higher once but was occupied with other things.

Max boost at the moment 1.25 bar. Blue injectors, stock T5 FPR, stock NA fuel pump. This is about as far I can get with a 12:1 AFR target and initial 11.5:1 fuel enrichment. Weight of the car was measured at 1490 kgs including some 20 ltr's of fuel before replacing the E-adjustable seat for a Sparco. This weight was entered into a Racelogic "Performancebox" GPS performance meter and after measuring the losses the box told me the engine power is near 290 crank HP at the moment.. To date the car didn't see a dyno.

The downsides so far, some parts are really coming at age after 517000 km. The car left me standing last week after the coolant temp went up from ~90 degree C to 150 degree all of a sudden. New temp sensor made things going again.

Not many things have changed since the last update. Car is running on now almost worn Kumho V70A's on TDR 17" rims.

Future changes will be a new coolant reservoir. Lower engine mount will receive powerflex bushings. Catchcan for the crank ventilation system will be added and I'm thinking about removing the whole interior after the summer.

That really proves the longevity and durability of our Volvos...I've always liked your cars, always pushing the envelope!

Yesterday, Sunday April 5th, I went to the annual Volvo "Eland" meeting together with the person who bought my SD2.

The former SD2 S70, now running a 2003 T5 engine, K24 turbo, 3" turboback exhaust, dyno'd at 375+ crank HP, and me driving the SD-C (or nowadays called the GT850-RS <img src="http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ) were just entering the highway when a Porsche 996 GT3 came from behind a few cars back in row. The GT3 was in a hurry and the guy was showing it by pushing cars in front of him. Since we were entering the highway we let him pass and while driving in traffic in the left lane for a while there appeared to be coming blue smoke puffs from the right rear of the car. I guess a valve cover must have been leaking or so.

After traffic cleared the GT3 went WOT and the S70 followed and of course I didn't want to be left alone.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

To my surprise the GT3 was no match and both Volvo's kept sticking to it's bumper. Not so much a surprise for the S70 but for my 850 which didn't have any problems keeping the pace. For the next 25 or so miles we kept driving behind and the S70 also in front of the GT3 for a while where it clearly walked away from the Porsche. At one point the speed went up as high as 150 mph but I backed off at ~135 during this run because all kinds of road dirt and stone chips started smashing the front of my car and I also noticed oily/greasy stuff on the windshield... Shortly after the Porsche took an exit and we drove on at a more legal pace.

The windshield was extremely dirty and greasy so i put on the wipers and added some washer fluid, wrong move, after which it became one big mess.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> Eventually most wiped off.

Once arrived at the destination the S70 driver told me he also had this same dirt on the windshield but then I noticed the whole car was covered in oil .. .

A nice thank you from the Porsche driver.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

During my vacation I gave it a long thought and the SD-C is going to be dismantled. I have had a lot of fun working on the car and I'm very happy with the results but it is time to move on, time for somethig new.

Going Ford..

Will report in about a week.

if this is the ford you are talking about we are all ears! :)

No... Unfortunately not.. :(

I chose a model which isn't available on the US market. In the current lineup it really is the most basic car you can get, if you still want a Volvo batch on your Ford.. ;)

The new challenge will be a 2007 Volvo C30 because I liked it so much..

tobeornottobe.jpg

But..

In Europe Volvo is offering several engine's and we have 3 luxury levels, Kinetic, Momentum and Summum but below these levels there's also the base model, look at it as having to sit on wooden chairs.

We also have several engine's, There's the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 Ford Duratec gasoline engine's, the 1.6 and 2.0 Diesel engine's and the 5 cylinder NA, 5 cylinder turbo gasoline and the 5 cylinder diesel engine.

I chose to go back to basic, 1.6 gasoline base version..

Will pick up the car tomorrow. Had some changes planned in the coming week and a trip to the Nurburgring Sunday the 9th to set a base lap time but Emiel has forbidden me to make any changes. Car will be bone stock.

Will post some pics tomorrow.
