Johann
do you still have the other C30? My wife drives a C30 1.6D DRIVe Picked up the car today,

Johann
The 1.6 Ford Duratec engine which basically is an older type Zetec-SE engine,
gdizzle
That should be cool project Johann, nice choice. I'm really curious to see how this pans out.

Johann
Keeping this one standard ?? At least for this week.. The plans.. many.. First of all I still have the KW V3 suspension shelved. Since this was made for a T5 engine the weight will be off but I have a set of lower rate springs available. The current springs are 7 kgs, the lower rate I have available are 6 kgs. I also want to try to get the "Clubsport" parts with it, need to contact KW for this. Clubsport kits come with a different top spring dish and adjustable camber plates including spherical steering bearings. For rims there is the choice between slightly modified 17" TDR ProRace 1.2's which need a smaller center to suit the P1 hub and I also have the 18" TDR ProRace 2 as used on the former SD3. Currently my wife's C30 is using these rims but she prefers the 18" Midir rims which still have winter tires fitted. With the SD3 I likes the combination of 18" ET40 rims with 225/40-18 tires best. The TDR's have 215/45-18 fitted, maybe better suited for the low power engine. Currently the car is on 205/55-16 wheels. So.. I guess the Midir's will receive summer tires and go to my wife. I think the 18" TDR's will end up underneath this car and teh 17 TDR's will go back to the SDM but I still want to try them udner this car. Next plan is the interior. Want to lean it out a bit but not to much. Maybe remove sound isolation but don't want bare metal. Of course the front seats need to go and the sparco will go in. Battery relocation to the rear. Plastic interior parts in the rear will go out also to have entrance to the upper shock adjustment, never used the trunk cover in the C30 anyway.. Then the engine and gearbox.. There are several options but first I need to investigate many things.. Missing electrical diagrams and good engine information but so far it appears the engine is totally Zetec-SE/Sigma. For this engine there are several options like throttle bodies and cams, stronger rod bolt for 8K RPM operation and such but the engine uses an electronic throttlebody. Still I want to check if it is possible to use some kind of hybrid ITB setup like used in today's WTCC/S2000 regulations. Basically an ITB setup without the individual butterflies but with a single throttlebody in front of the rambox. Numbers for the available setups for 1600 can go as high as 200 crank HP, 160-180 should be in there for an average tune. The other option is a Duratec 2.3 which makes it easier to reach 200 crank HP. The one thing which makes it difficult is the gearbox which is type IB5 and the weakest box available. The Duratec 1.8 and 2.0 use an MTX75 gearbox which is slightly stronger. At the moment I can't find information about exchangeability of these gearboxes. I know the newer Fiesta uses a Duratec 2.0 with an IB5 gearbox but I can't find information on the bolt pattern. Quaife has several stages of short ratio gearkits available including dogbox and a very affordable sequential 5 setup.. Thing is that Quaife has rather questionable reputation in this area.. So.. Either see if the 1600 can be tuned a bit to acceptable power levels. One option with the 1600 is a turbo but for now I don't want to go that route. Second option is a larger 2,3 crate engine. Future power goal I guess something between 180 and 220 HP depending on torque behavior and combined with a shorter gearbox with a max speed of ~130-135 mph. Want to see if I can beat the T5's 60-115 mph behavior.
Mesoam
60-115 in a modded t5 is decently quick...or are we talking stock ;)
gdizzle
Sounds very cool Johann. I'd like to see the WTCC setup in this car. B)
Johann
60-115 in a modded t5 is decently quick...or are we talking stock Modded should be doable. Although I loved the T5 the engine's performance wans't really impressive, even modded. Don't know if the C30T5 spoiler produced a lot of drag but anything above 125 mph became real slow. nari
congrats on the new car! Def. interesting project, I'm really curious how it's going to turn out. btw. I drove one of those, that 1.6 is painfully slow
Johann
btw. I drove one of those, that 1.6 is painfully slow Well.. It's not to bad.. Reached 112 mph max over a distance of ~14 miles.. When the throttle can be kept on it is great fun, just don't brake...
nari
When the throttle can be kept on it is great fun, just don't brake... hell yeah.. and it cornered a lot better than my 850 :sniff:how much does it weight? IIRC c30s are a bit fat.
