Johann
Finally after 20 months... Last week Emiel and I discussed a possible Ring visit but we didn't want to go in the weekend. To busy to drive a good pace. For me it didn't matter that much because my last Ring visit was in November 2010 and nearly forgot how the track goes. We agreed to go to the Ring today with the RS500. Ring would be open from 17.00 to 21.00. We left from my place at 14.30. Needed to clear the gas tank from 95 octane so left with less than half a tank which took us near Dusseldorf. Filled the tank with 102 octane, and the stomach with a very nice and tasty Currywurst. Ran in to some minor traffic and arrived at the Ring at about 17:40. Loaded the Ring card with 4 laps and off we went for my first lap after so many months. The lap went a bit to quick for a reconnaissance lap. Rusty happy me took one corner a bit to optimistic but doable.. The RS was very forgiving though. After one lap we met with a few friends at the parking lot and while talking we heard a message over the speakers that from then on no motorcycles were allowed on the track. Emiel and I immediately went for the second lap because no motorcycles on track is the best situation you can have. Lap went a lot better. Car did absolutely marvelous. At 3/4 of the track there was a safety car parked on the side of the track and half of the road was closed. We passed at low speed and the throttle went back on after that. Ran a 9.00 lap time according Emiel's GPS timer. Not bad IMO. Back at the parking lot there was another message over the speakers telling us the track was closed because of oil on track. One friend, Was still on track so we were a bit worried but all turned out to be OK. We went for a drink at the restaurant waiting for the track to open again but shortly after we were told that due to the severity of the oil spillage the track would be closed for the remainder of the day. So.. little over an hour after we arrived we were heading home again. Still it couldn't spoil the fun. Great afternoon!
