The Chronicles Of Area 34, formerly 55

Worst thing was that it almost ruined a planned track day.

We should have arrived at the track at a quarter to eight in the morning. Track is called the Bilster Berg Drive Resort and is situated 150 miles from where I live.

My son and I left at six in the moring only to arrive back home at a quarter to eight to change 4 wheels..

Second attempt brought us to the track at half past eleven. A 2.6 mile track with some Nurburgring like parts, pretty technical.

Weather didn't play very nice but we had a lot of fun with the mainly stock R.

Only issue I had was overreving during shifting. Sort of turbo overshoot. Guess the TCV has had it's best time.

During one of the sessions we followed a very nicely restored VW Golf Rally for a while.

My son liked the car very much and took a lot of pictures of the car.

2.5T is nearing completion,

25t-int-3.jpg

25t-int-5.jpg

New seals, new water pump, new bearings (Glyco plus sputter for the rods)

Engine bore was OK, like new. Didn't change anything here.

Head was resurfaced, new valve seals and valve seats checked.

Head back on,

Lifters, cams and pulleys are back in. Waiting for some parts like a new distribution set and some gaskets.

Also made some VVT solenoid covers for another project,

Coming along. Is this getting anything do to increase torque, since it's for the carrier?

Carrier needs a bit more torque, preferable turbo torque, if I want to take it to the Nurburgring. In flat Holland it does OK but the last part of highway 1 to the Ring is a very long and steep incline. Don't think a loaded NA Carrier will be happy there..

Cleaned and installed some 960 motor mounts today,

engine-mounts-1.jpg

Already did a longitudinal install of the 5 cylinder in the Opel but used self made mounts with that setup. For this I want to try the 960 parts. Did some reading of other installs and the weird thing is that the threads and bosses(?) on the 5 cylinder engine appear to differ per build day of the block. For this particular engine the bosses on the intake side were all present to receive the 960 mount except for one boss not having thread in it.

The mount itself needed some material removed to fit over the crank vent. The vent canister itself has a double front wall, the outer wall being a sort of heat or cooling shield. This needed some trimming also.

For the exhaust side 3 of the 4 bolt holes have bosses present. One is M10 and one is missing thread. Need to fabricate strip to suit the 4th bolt hole.

On my 2.0 T5 there was only 2 holes on the exhaust side, on my '94 2.3 t5 there are 3... it was a nice surprise :)

on the intake side I believe all of them are the same, 3 holes are present.
