A 200 mile trip to pick up an 850 body with turbo parts in the engine bay.

Want to rebuild the Carrier to turbo in the near future. Currently the car s M4.4 NA. Want the engine bay to be as OEM turbo as possible. A Dutch forum member had this chassis available. Only the engine was removed from the engine bay. All other is still with the car.

To clarify,

Needed the firewall shielding and the intercooler plumbing. Already have a new radiator with oil cooler installed in the car. Also had an OEM intercooler with the mounting plates but this chassis came with a complete cooling pack including AC condensor. T5 engine wiring harness is also with it. Don't know about the differences with an M4.4 harness, need to check.

Plus a "Turbo" air box,

Made a pretty long trip with the Carrier to pick up an Italian T-5R.

The Carrier did great. Nice cruising at 70 mph.

The T-5R is not far from being a wrecker.

I was told the 2.0 engine had a blown head gasket but after investigating there was more to it than that.. I started removing the head but once the cams were out I decided to pull the whole engine from the bay..

One big greasy mess.

Want to keep the car original with the 2.0 engine to I guess it is going to be a complete overhaul.

Also want to open and clean the gearbox.

August 31 there's a 20th anniversary T-5R event in the Netherlands and I want to have the car drivable by then.

Do they have Volvo car for parts or sale alert straight to you. Seem like you picking up a car every weekend.

Only picked up 3 cars.. (and 2 were sold.) I bought the green sedan as a display car. Car is suspended and will remain so for the time being.

The blue chassis was for free for parts. After stripping the last bits it will go to the wreck yard.

The T-5R is a difficult car. In my country the value of a nice T-5R is somewhere between 3 and 5K Euro's but the state of these cars vary a lot. Some still ask over 10K Euro's for a mint CY.. I bought this T-5R for 1500 but I was told the car was offered to someone for 1100.. My bad luck. The reasons for picking up this car, currently there is a slaughter going on with 850's. Many are offered for 4-600 Euro's and bought as parts cars. As an 850 fan this isn't a nice thing to see. Talking dozen's of cars in the last couple of months. I think in parts the car will make 2-3K Euro's. Thing is, T-5R's will be stripped also and for a limited production run I think this is a sad thing so I decided to try and save one. For the good cause.. ;) Maybe the wrong colour but still it is a T-5R and completely stock also.

August 31 there is a big 20th anniversary T-5R event in my country where an attempt will be made to collect as much T-5R's as possible. Just like 10 years ago. Would be nice this T-5R can be part of it.

After that I might try to sell the car or maybe my oldest son wants to drive the car. My son is turning 17 next week and will start taking driving lessons next month. In my country you have to be 18 for a full driver license but with the so called "2 to drive" program he can get the license at 17 but needs to be accompanied by an experienced driver when driving until he is 18.

He was supposed to go drive the 142 but that car turned out to be in worse shape than expected. Nearly the whole rear was gone.

Nice that you have a mission to save a T5 :)

What's this talk of getting old?? My kids are 27 and 23, I don't consider myself old at all....

Me neither. Even consider myself being younger than my son.. Until the next physical clue telling me otherwise. :P

About that T-5R.. As it appears B5204T pistons OS .04 are no longer available. Custom made is about double the Volvo price and I'm hesitant to go that route.

Thinking about dropping B5234T internals in this engine..
