dmelviØØ7 Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 So the advantage of a 2001 crank is increased displacement? Direct drop in? Quote
Johann Posted February 2, 2008 Author Report Posted February 2, 2008 So the advantage of a 2001 crank is increased displacement? Direct drop in?No, same stroke but ~8.8 lbs less. Direct drop in yes. Quote
dmelviØØ7 Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 No, same stroke but ~8.8 lbs less. Direct drop in yes.Oh nice. Thx Quote
Zappo Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 No, same stroke but ~8.8 lbs less. Direct drop in yes.Danny is waiting to do an engine rebuild on a 2001 now so he can swap cranks. :) Quote

Geezer Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) OK...I'm out in the cold here. I'm going to ask a coupla dumbass question here cos I don't understand.8.8 lbs less than standard means it's going to rev harder??? What/who are "China" rods? Sorry, I'm not mechanically minded but I want to try to understand what you guys are talking about. The info could be important (2 me) in the future. Thanx. Edited February 3, 2008 by Geezer Quote

Thanx. If you read the first page of this thread you can see a nice picture of a connecting rod which was made in China. The lesser weight makes the engine respond a bit better. Quote
ozzimark Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 No, same stroke but ~8.8 lbs less. Direct drop in yes.definitely a nice drop in rotational mass. though a reduction in weight almost always means less material. is it still as strong as the older cranks? Quote
Johann Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 Update,The engine rebuild is finished so far,Started another thing I kept postponing..The wiring loom for the standalone EMS,Because it is all experimental I left the looms at full length. the ECU will probably end up somewhere in the centre console..Changes made are,MAF connection removed. Injector setup changed from batch fire to sequential. connections used are,2 x knock5 x injectors1 x TPS1 x CLT1 x IAT1 x MAP2 x trigger1 x narrow band lambda for CLLThings left are RPM, ignition drive and some power.Loom is already back in the car connected on the engine, need to make a pass through in the firewall. BlackT5 Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Ah yes, wiring brings back memories...What EMS Johann? Quote
