I see!

Saw a few RWD volvo's with upright mounted whitebloks, really looks great.

Good luck

Thanks. Read your Manta rebuild thread on www.opel-forum.nl and it looks like you are making some nice progress yourself.

Saw "SanderCoupe"'s reply about "Oele's" VMS engine with the log manifold but I would advice you not to copy that design. You could go log style but use thicker material and let the runner flow toward the collector. Also flow the collector itself. The manifold as pictured didn't survive and Oele changed the setup to a welded R manifold from what I recall. The collector of that manifold was avery bad design. Basically a hole was cut in the cross pipe and a chamber was welded over it. Pipe wall remained inside the collector as huge ridges.

  • 3 weeks later...

It was that time of year again....

Shortly before we, the wife I must say, took delivery of an XC60 DrivE.

And some 900 miles later we were at our destination,

maxime.jpg

The XC60 replaces the C30 DrivE.

Although not really the greatest Volvo made IMO the XC has proven to be a very nice handling car.

The DrivE is a 163 HP 2.0 5 cylinder diesel engine with start/stop function and the usual shift indication for lean driving. It's front wheel drive only with a 6 speed M66 gearbox. The luxury level order is pretty much entry level with navigation, tinted rear windows, sunroof and some different cloth on the seats. Tow hook was added and 20" rims with 255 wide tires.

At the destination it was a lot of up,

And very little down,

Two weeks passed in no time. We did see Paris Hilton IRL.. And Karl Lagerfeld

Back from vacation Emiel came picking up the SDM for the track day he had committed to.

Next day I pulled the RS500 from it's cave,

lift.jpg

And went to the TT_ciruit in Assen to go see Emiel drive the SDM,

Where someone was kind enough to make a nice picture of the RS500,

Last weekend I took the Blitz for a longer test drive to get some more go in the engine particularly near the desired cruising speed where it was behaving a bit sluggish.

Although registered as weighing 3815 lb. the scale indicated it was closer to 5290 lb. A minor reason for acting sluggish I guess.. :D

While trying to maintain a speed near 50 mph it had a tendency to drag down to 47 mph. In normal traffic this isn't a very pleasant behavior. After some fiddling it now wants to settle near 53 mph with a steady throttle which is nice. Now it also pulls up to 65 mph without drama although driving that speed makes the whole thing feel a bit floaty but it'll have to do for now. The front tire and rim width are a bit outdated and rims and tires are hard to get. Currently the car is on "Snow preferred" all season tires. <_< Next on the list is to load a car and see how it does.

For the 142 I took a brief look at converting the front brakes to 304 MM S60 rotors and calipers. Made a test bracket,

S60-conv1.jpg

S60-conv2.jpg

But I don't have the proper bolts to mount the bracket to the hub. Used two wheel studs because they have the same thread and I hope the proper bolts will arrive this week.

Also received an R-Sport replica spoiler from Sweden I ordered almost 2 months ago,

I really like the colors on that XC60, do you have any pics of the interior?

Is there much power to be had with most stock turbo diesel cars, or does the type of fuel and the higher compression ratio limit power that can be made?

You were talking about "good handling", is the suspension all bone stock?

The pic of the RS500 is nice ;)

What is the basic breakdown of the turboback system on that car (diameters, mufflers, resonators...ect)?

Done anything with the Lexus?

Will take some pics later.

The car is plenty quick for what it needs to do. The turbo push is nice.

We Euro's have a choice between comfort and sport suspension at no extra cost when ordering a car from factory. This car came with the sport suspension which I think adds a lot to the the way the car behaves now. Feels very compliant. 20" are a good welcome as well.

Pfff.. never really looked in to it. Slightly larger than for instance the C30 T5 exhaust. Exhaust is pretty loud and open so I guess there's not that much holding the fumes back.

Yes, new front brake pads were installed. Made by Brembo and apparently made out of gold..
