Update,

Went hunting for other options last month and found a couple... Part of the deal was a parts car

And the other part of the deal was an abandoned project car...

The Swededemon anniversary project... SD10

But wait, it isn't white.

Brought the car to the painter and received it back just before X-mas,

A '77 242 with a B21A engine and a manual 4 speed gearbox.

Before paint some modifications were made. Sunroof was welded shut. Holes of the chrome strip mounts were welded. Front and rear Fenders rolled,

Although most will be modified over time the suspension already was in nice restored shape,

Sandblasted and repainted some parts already,

Also some engine parts, engine will go in for the time being .

Started putting back together the huge puzzle of parts which came with the car in boxes and bags.

And today the windshield way glued in. Chose to use a 91+ windshield , no chrome strips.

And the rear window was put back in place,

For now most of the parts which came with the car will go back on and register it. Want to put late style bumpers on the car and if possible '75 front bezels and grill.

Car will be lowered, 17x8 and 17x9 rims are on order. Engine mods are still a bit open but 5 cylinder has prefs.

Damn it, the tails are different, just noticed.

It will be nice to see a N block in this thing. looks like it weighs no more than 1200 kilos lol, should be interestingly fast.

Front is different also. Group A has square lights.

Maybe it will look like a Group A in the far distance (Bramoco '87 Donnington 500..) but that isn't my intention. Also no trunk spoiler.

Most important is registration at the moment. I want the car to be road legal so I can drive. I bought SD9 last year because it was cheap and to get a bit familiar with the older models. Thing is that there isn't straight body panel on the car. It needed some attention at the rear arches and I was afraid I would run from one thing in to the other. I didn't feel the car was really worth it plus I always liked the 242 better.. . Ill keep the SD9 and maybe at some point will take a look at it.

The 242 was offered like this,

first-1.jpg

The 244 came with it as a parts car but it was still untouched. The previous owner bought it to transfer the 4 speed plus overdrive gearbox and driveshaft.

After checking the 242 it tuned out there was hardly any rust except at the rear arches but this had already been repaired. Welding was OK but not very flush. Everything was still in primer, no bondo, so the repairs were clearly visible.

Made a nice deal with the paint/body shop to fix some glitches plus the mods mentioned in the earlier post and paint the outside and engine bay. While at it they also painted the trunk and half the interior.

At least I know the state of the car now and it makes a good base for future modifications. Interior will be minimal so not to much work.

Maybe a 5 cylinder will go in at some point but I became a bit hesitant. Although I still have done a lot with my cars last year, for instance the Opel Blitz rebuild, I never really had the time and frankly also no really the urge to do the thing I wanted to do with the cars. Didn't drive one single lap at the Nürburgring last year. Didn't drive at a track with SDM, only as a passenger when Emiel took SDM to the track. SD7 is still in no shape to drive, didn't touch it for months.

For now the plans are to make SD10 road legal with whatever propels the car, make SD7 run hopefully before April this year but I already have the feeling I won't manage. The Blitz needs a repair also.

If SD10 turns out to do OK I will take it to the Ring and drive one lap at the least. That is the one commitment I'll make for this year.

  • 2 weeks later...

Put together the engine and gearbox.

The way it appears now the clutch is almost gone and the compression is so so.

It gave me a chance to take a lot of measurements for a future engine transplant.

Maybe I'll try and make the engine run on the bench.

Received lowering springs today to get a bit of a head start on the stance of the car. IPD sway bars will arrive in a couple of weeks.

Today finally the heating is up and running again. No more freezing temperatures in the new workshop. Windows were wrapped with transparent "smoke glass",
