The Chronicles Of Area 34, formerly 55

Ok, this workshop is just for your pleasure ?

Well.. Basically yes an no .. ..

The name of this thread says "Chronicles of Area 55" and is mainly a sort of blog for my personal day to day mostly Volvo related experiences.

Like mentioned the 55 number is the street / house number of my house. The new building's number is 34 so sometimes called "Area 34"

Acquiring the new building is part of mentioned experiences.

Because the building is located in an industrial area with industrial / commercial designation I decided to start and register a trading company at this address.

So yes as of a couple of weeks it is a company.

If you read back this thread you can see pictures of a workshop I have been using when working on the Volvo projects. I have been using this workshop for the last 10 years or so. You can also see that the new "recycle" workbench looks a lot like the workbenches in that workshop. I made the workbench this way because I liked the other benches so much. :)

The other workshop is from a company I partially own and work for. I used this space mostly in the evenings and weekends and solely for hobby purpose. Over the years I have fabricated lots of often smaller parts and also made parts for others but most were one offs.

With the new building I decided to transfer all the hobby activity to this space. Downside is that because I had so much for so many years I now have near nothing..

I gathered some tools over the years but basically have to start from scratch. To make the future workshop a bit more cosy and practical the walls were added before the other stuff like cabinets, tools and machinery will go in. The metal insulated walls aren't suitable to mount things against.

For now I want to keep things the way they are as a hobby and for the fun of it. In time I will explore possibilities to fabricate smaller production runs of certain parts and offer them commercially. First things first. ;)

Here is a very nice project anyway, I'm a bit in the same situation, I work on my Volvo and other cars for over ten years and I am in the process of building a local to work for myself and make the sale of upholstery work and mechanical engineering and structural steel. Continue to share with us your chronic anyway and congratulations on your purchase of Sam Carrier.

I would not fail me enjoy reading all that

New motor for the 242?

No just some experiment. For now the B234 will stay in the 242.

Nice. Why'd you choose that versus the two post lift?

This is an XL version to suit the Carrier's 4.6 mtr wheelbase. It's also wider compared to a standard size 4 post lift although the Carrier's rear track width will barely fit.
