It will make me want to get rid of any "R" reference on my car.

You're right, the additional 18hp over the 1997 T-5 puts your car into sacred land. I would just remove the badges of the R-Designed cars myself. Who cares what you call it. Bring back "SE" if it ruffles so many feathers.

concepts only, but you can always dream.

I wonder if they acctually built the engines in those cars and tuned them properly or if they just bolted on massive turbos and superchargers for show.

I wish someone offered "staged" packages involving bigger turbos for these cars as there are for audis and VW's I mean how hard could it be to make 300 hp from the 2.5 liter LPT T5 in the C30, S40 and V50 with a bigger turbo.

When Volvo introduced the R, it came with more engine performance and more things that you wanted to look at. With the latest R models, you got more engine, brakes that you didn't want to upgrade, suspension that was a cut above and styling,

all in all a good attempt I think. Sacred land? Maybe not but you and I would still rather have an R than not.

Why would they tune a supercharger that was not even hooked up?

The supercharger in the IPD C30 wasnt hooked up?

I completely agree. It wasnt going to beat an M3 or an S4, but it was fast for a volvo and did have a lot of nice goodies i wouldnt mind having on my current car

the claim was that the drive belt wasn't on the supercharger. which from the looks of it was either a roots or twin-screw. they must have gutted the blower otherwise how do you get air through a positive displacement blower if it isn't turning?

Sounds like they saw all of the people who put R bumpers, R emblems and Pegs on their N/A's and LPT's and they figured that they had missed the mark all these years by building in the incremental performance upgrades to the R models
