i've been ticket-free since 2005 with my Cobra

I wasnt as far as I am concered school zone BS is just a speed trap and nothing more.

if it was school time I would of been 5 mph under.

and this is the first ticket in 6 years.

If you two are speeding that far above the speed limit that you need a mile of warning then your problem is not when the cops will "catch" you it when your going to wreck and die.

in Virginia they'll fine you 2500 bucks for doing 80... that's what the detectors are for

as for the cobra, i have one and i use it but it's a joke. there are false alarms all the time that will stay on for minutes. maybe one in ten is actually a cop who you will see before you slow down because of the false alarms. it goes off for K band when i pass road hazard signs in DC. i have had it for three years and use it mostly when i roadtrip. the laser detector went off for the first time last friday and guess what? false alarm. the only thing a cobra is good for is knowing the cop actually got you on radar when he pulls out after you and the cobra goes off.

It doesnt. It just tells me when I am getting hit. The only thing to prevent that is a laser jammer. Those *might* be illegal, but they are definitely available. I cant remember if the K40 is a radar jammer or laser jammer or both. I also cant remember which one is illegal.

K40 is a laser jammer and radar detector. Escort also offers this type of product, and so does BEL. Radar cannot be legally jammed because in order to do so, you'd need to emit a signal to interfere. Doing this would violate FCC rules/restrictions. Laser is governed by the FDA, so its a different story. However, I imagine they could be considered interfering with police in some way and also deemed illegal.

In any case, from what I can gather it seems you dont know THAT much about radar detectors. I am no genius or expert, but I did do research before buying one...Anyone who does research should be able to make the logical decision of NOT buying a cobra.

Laser jammers are not illegal. There are radar jammers but they are illegal for most people. The 'radar jammers' you can buy online or from the back of road and track are empty boxes with LEDs. You're not allowed to make, sell, or buy them without a damn good reason and a big budget.

Bel RX65 is just as good as the Escort and V1. Unlike the V1, the Escort and the Bel are better in that they can be integrated with laser jammer systems. You can buy a standalone to work with a 10 year old tech V1, but all-in-one systems are slightly better.

I have a cobra that was received as a gift and I used it at a maximum of 5 times and now I dont know where it even is. One day I will get the V1 or the passport but until then I am better off without my Cobra. I feel bad that someone in my family wasted their money on such worthless electronics.
