lookforjoe
To keep it in Star Trek terms this is a very logical mod. P2's even don't have that much space left in that area. I was nervous about doing it, but I was careful not to cut into the webbing, and made sure the transitions are smooth with no cuts/harsh edges that could conceivably lead to stress.. It's probably a non-issue, but I don't want to run into issues with the casing
notaduc
Great news! I spoke to Seamus - a most helpful guy - and he clarified several points, not the least of which is that the M66 AWD trans works just fine with the stock AWD angle gear & rear diff - there is no need to replace any of those components. His has 40K on it since the swap with no issues. pic of the l/s rear fabricated mount bracket, that allows the use of the existing mount: He also confirmed that the stock driveshafts will work, although it would be better to get a r/s Manual AWD driveshaft - so I'll be tracking one of those down.. Like Matt B, he says the stick ECU is a must. Other tidbits include the need to modify the underside of the airbox inlet & duct hose to clear the M66 linkage, and the need for higher temp brake fluid as a result of the internal slave cylinder. If all goes well, I'll have all the parts in the next week or so, then I can get set to put it all together So, any idea how the system copes with different ratios? Does the VC take it up, or does the bevel/rear being the same deal with it??? 1
Dan A
why are you reviving a thread whose last post was a year and a half ago? 1

Does the VC take it up, or does the bevel/rear being the same deal with it??? There is no difference in ratios - the ratio of the BG is the inverse of the rear axle, so that they cancel each other out. The trans/diff FD ratio is 3.77:
lookforjoe
Just updating pics of the trans bracket in place Note that anyone doing this on a '00 or AWD with 5 speed auto will also need to buy the '97-'99 style trans mount 9161101 to get the height adjustment. Subframe lugs should also be shaved along the seam Kaplhenke can also supply nice heim joint bushings for the x70 style cable ends (98-00) When filling one of these trans with the modified bracket, easiest to fill through the top shift detent bolt shown in the above pic. Big Will
H - it's always appreciated how you keep these threads updated so that when people find them through search the info is current. That's dedication.
Commander Riker
This thread should be stickied, considering how popular this swap is starting to get.
lookforjoe
It is actually included as a link in the stickied manual swap thread, not sure how many people look there. BlackT5's needs to go in also, due to the hardware & software variances for 99-00 cars, though Looking again, it's in Oreos post, and there is no index in the opening post to direct anyone looking. I'll PM Adam & see if he can organize it a little better.
Ol' Dirty Noodle
If the M56 in the 850 were to ever shit the bed and there was absolutely no way to get an M58 I'd have to consider a full RN M66 swap given the info now available

You may need to tap the existing hole (gold bolt on left) above the axle - it's not usually threaded on S60/V70 applications.
lookforjoe
I never listed the shifter specifics - '00 shifter housing and cables stock bushings replaced with Volvo 1378153 ancillary mount bush cut down to correct height (before Kaplhenke bushing install) shifter can be shortened stock S60R cable bracket was bent & holes enlarged for '00 cable barrels Then I added retainer hooks to make sure the cable barrels could not lift in the bracket later I modified it to include an adjuster for the main shift cable
