That is kinda pricey. For between 2-3K you can get close to 300 hp at the crank. Also another 2-3K you can get a 6 speed and taller gears. This will probably net a mid to low 13s M3 that can be daily driven and tracked easily. Not cheap, but it is a very, very nice car.

Joe is right. Driving one is very convincing. It actually took 2 drives and a quick pass around a huge 180 onram turn. These cars are not cheap, but worth the money. They are not drag racers, but were not meant to be.

My biggest problem right now is how much to pay for one. They range from 16-22K for 40-100K cars. Great ones can be had for 22K, but that seems a bit high. Though if it is in good shape that isn't bad. Problem is on the bimmerforums lots of them are going for about 18K with around 60-80K miles on them.

Yes the price for the E30 is semi fair. I still think in all, they are over priced. Thats just because I want one soooo bad! You have me thinking about an E36 now though! There are a ton out here, unlike the E30's. I would go for the Dakar Yellow or Estoril Blue!*drool* :)

Yeah, Estoril rocks! That is the color I'm going for.

Also the new 330 with performance package looks like a good car. Upgraded suspension and a 6 speed. With a few mods I bet it could keep up with a E36 M3 in a straight line easy. Not sure about handling though since the E46 doesn't handle nearly as well as the E36 out of the box.

After drving the E36 and scoping out some E46s I might just wait a few years and get an E46. They E46s are getting down in price to where I'll start looking at them. The E36 is a wonderful car. Handling is superb and the brakes rule. However it does lack in the power department in stock configuration. It still is faster than our cars for the most part, but that is because it can use its power better not because it has more. I still want one, but can wait a year or two to get the E46. Or I just checked on the price of one in Minnesota and it is only $550 a month for 72 months.

Despite my love for an M3 I'm a power monger and that turbo kicking in when it is running right is just awesome. And this is with the stock exhaust. I'm guessing when I finally get my exhaust upgrade I'll really be happy. At least until next spring.

Of course I reserve the right to change my opinion for no apparent reason at any point in time. :P

The frame is structually stiffer because of the 4-doors more stout B-pillar and the fact that there are twice as many doors, all of them with frames.

Here are two threads discussing the coupe vs. sedan at a greater lengths...

Which is also the reason why the GD8 and later Scoobie WRX's only came in 4dr sedan versions. People even agreed that the previous 4dr sedan GC wrx's were stiffer and handled better.

Call me fickle, but this has now caught my eye:

I never knew they had the alcantra like seats that matched exterior color. This is an awesome shade of blue. Plus I know AWD + Turbo can be made really, really fast for cheap. It would be faster than an E46 M3 with just a few mods and cost 15K less. HMMM.....

they also have their share of problems too, from what ive heard. id have to to more research but when i was looking for an A4 i kept running into unsatisfied "im trading for an M3" customers. doesnt seem they are nearly as fast as theyre sposed to be, nobody can get consistently good times out of them straight line(sound familiar?!)

id still consider one though, i love them. i love the look. if i didnt already give my vows to bmw, i would look more into them.

not taking away from the m3, but i can think of ten better daily drivers in my opinion (starting with the porsche cayenne and ending with an audi rs6) but id take the money and buy a used NSX, regardless of what you might think it will be less maintenance. and try to keep the volvo for when you feel like bringing something bigger than a backpack .
