theForgottenone
A local newspaper opinion section headline today was the thread tittle.Comparing war cost. US funds to wage for conflicts, with inflation-adjusted dollars:WWII: $5 trillion Iraq war: $3 trillion (to date)Vietnam War: (1964-75) $635 billionKorean War: (1950-53) $445 billionMonthly cost for Iraq war funding is $12 billion a month ($16 if include Afghanistan).Cost of oil in 2003 was $25 per barrel. Current price $100 (Yes, China and India were growing by leaps and bounds, but cheap supplies from the Middle East were expected to meet their demands.)So why do we bother if Federal Reserve can pump out liquidity and regulators look away as loans were handled out well beyond borrowers ability to repay them. The loss from economy downturn - measured by disparity betwen the economy's actual output and its potential outpout - is likely to be the greatest since the Great Depression. That total, itself well in excess of $1 trillion, is NOT included in this estimated $3 trillion cost of war. Some unverify news link belows. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080311/wl_af...st_080311024910http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commen...0,3162208.storyhttp://www.dailypress.com/news/opinion/dp-...0,4302616.story

Money can be spend for greater good in many other waysyou can not comfortablly say that though... ok lets say we did not go into IRAQ or Affy... lets say Sadam and other terr0rits were still in power... lets say they b0mbed the whitehouse or another NEW YORK town or tower... hmm... and who knows how much power they would still have... I tell you what... I rather spend the money out of my paycheck to "feel" safe or keep from us getting attacked on our soilTrue statements for $1000 please. What are most welfare checks?great point! lets also talk about all the people we pay in the government that do not do ANYTHING... the women behind me gets 80k a year to sleep at her desk, go to 2 hour lunches, ask me how to attach files to e-mails... and she is 1 of 1million people just like her... and then they get pissed that they hire contractors to do their jobs.do not get me started on illegals wanting free health care and in-state tuition to go to college
Che'_Moderator
We are at an all time low for taxes. What do I car what Uncle Sugar does with my tax money. As long as the Chinese are not marching in, roads are paved, and prisons are full I am happy.
7 VII 7
I agreeas long as I can still live well, be able to read what I want, watch whatever I want on TV and not have to practice one religion then I am fine.I am sick of people complaining about the war and our country... today there are protests going on all over the DC metro area... ok, we get it... but where else would you be able to do that and still have all the freedom we doI WOULD LOVE to see these people spend 1 year in China or any other country where they do not have "freedom"... they would come back and would STFU. theForgottenone
True statements for $1000 please. What are most welfare checks? So ALL welfare recipient are scamming on the govt? I'm sure some are truly deserve the assistance.you can not comfortablly say that though... ok lets say we did not go into IRAQ or Affy... lets say Sadam and other terr0rits were still in power... lets say they b0mbed the whitehouse or another NEW YORK town or tower... hmm... and who knows how much power they would still have... I tell you what... I rather spend the money out of my paycheck to "feel" safe or keep from us getting attacked on our soilYup, feeling safe is a subjective thing. So you saying with 3 Trillion dollars, the govt couldn't protect us by other means beside going to the war in Iraq. I meant, they can't hire more human intelligient, safety process to safeguard those things that happens, better military defense, weapons..etc. I guess the only solution is engage in war with falsely information is the best approach to issue.great point! lets also talk about all the people we pay in the government that do not do ANYTHING... the women behind me gets 80k a year to sleep at her desk, go to 2 hour lunches, ask me how to attach files to e-mails... and she is 1 of 1million people just like her... and then they get pissed that they hire contractors to do their jobs.do not get me started on illegals wanting free health care and in-state tuition to go to collegeThat's not a war issue but govt structure failure. That's what wrong with the whole system right now. Incompentent people that get paid more than those flipping burgers.I agreeas long as I can still live well, be able to read what I want, watch whatever I want on TV and not have to practice one religion then I am fine.I am sick of people complaining about the war and our country... today there are protests going on all over the DC metro area... ok, we get it... but where else would you be able to do that and still have all the freedom we doI WOULD LOVE to see these people spend 1 year in China or any other country where they do not have "freedom"... they would come back and would STFU.If the peace demostration and public pressure didnt exist, do you think U.S withdraw from Vietnam in 1975?Last time I check, U.S still consider a democracy country with freedom of speech and organize peaceful protests. Che'_Moderator
So ALL welfare reciepient are scamming on the govt? I'm sure some are truly deserve the assistance.Welfare should be limited to 6 months. Hard times and hard life are not the same thing. I think if you have no job after 6 months you get cut off or are forced to take a job the start assigns you. That's not a war issue but govt structure failure. That's what wrong with the whole system right now. Incompentent people that get paid more than those flipping burgers. No skills = no pay. Unless you want to turn communist thats the way it will and has to be.If the peace demostration and public pressure didnt exist, do you think U.S withdraw from Vietnam in 1975?Last time I check, U.S still consider a democracy country with freedom of speech and organize peaceful protests. Are you really using the withdrawal from Saigon as how we should leave Iraq? That alone speaks volumes.
