Which doesn't contribute to society.

Right.

Most of them own their own businesses (and pay all the various taxes associated with them (business, payroll, property)), support our infrastructure (building roads, houses, working blue collar and service industry jobs) have unbelievable work ethic....

Lets not let common stereotypes get in the way of rational thought. We rely on this diversity to form an economic base, but then blame "immigrants" and "minorities" for societies ills?

Why are we not focused on educating and assimilating groups into mainstream society? Why have these groups predominately stuck to their own?

CA and TX will have a majority of their population become Hispanic by the year 2050.

We should be more concentrated on building bridges, not walls.

It may be true, however, I don't believe their contributions to society make up for the lack of contribution from the rest. I also don't think the ones who are in this country legally, and are contributing should be discriminated against, but I strongly believe the rest should do their part or get out. Plain and simple.

I also don't think we need to encourage or enable or accept their lack of learning the language. I'm ok with pressing 1 for english 2 for spanish... there's nothing wrong with that, imo. I don't however want to be refused a job because I don't speak spanish and can't communicate with spanish speaking customers/clients.

It is about building bridges, but also making sure they use the bridges, not hop the fence 2 miles down the border.

Just because it's possible doesn't mean it should be done. That doesn't make it right.

I completely agree with you, I did not give my opinion on the original matter, I simply stated that it is possible to live in the U.S without speaking english when he said that it was not.

Then you are blatantly ignoring the truth that it is possible to live in the United States and not speak english.

Luis Reyes, Ricardo Dominguez and Rafael Guzman-Mateo, ranging in age from 17 to 22, all needed interpreters when they pleaded guilty at the Luzerne County court.

It's ridiculous, one should have to learn English to live here.

I'm not sure how this discussion dissolved into name-calling, but i'll post an opinion anyways...

I agree with all of what has been put forth by el director.

Additionally, i'd like to note that the successful assimilation of immigrants into American language and culture may be an effective method in reducing racially motivated hate crimes as well. Specifically, it seems that a lot of 'hate crimes' are committed by bigotry which is caused by human ignorance. Ignorance, moreover, is often a catalyst for fear--and fear, finally, is often a cause for violent and unpredictable behaviour. Ultimately, with language barriers nullified--or at least vastly decreased--it may be possible to decrease crime and violence.

And crime and violence is something that we can ALL do without...American citizen, permanent resident, legal immigrant, illegal immigrant, etc. all alike.

+1

There are other ethnic groups that have their own community without needing the requirement of learning English. Would you said that the people in the Little Saigon, Little Italy or Chinatown is not contributing positively to the society?

Ignorance is a bliss.
