Speedtuning Chip Group Buy

If you can explain to me why and how ST chips suck, I might be willing to listen. Otherwise, blanket statements from someone with less automotive knowledge than ME mean nothing.

My $.02

Oh snap!

Nicely done Adam....

I'm not too familiar with SpeedTuning, though I've seen it mentioned here quite a few times, as being crappy etc. Then I've also seen quite often people complaining about their Rica chip "Too rich!" Check engine lights on!" etc.

So, I'm wondering why is this so cheap, compare to Rica or Ipd?

Does it give the same amount of extra horsepower which is (20-30hp?) ?

How reliable is SpeedTuning?

I have my S60R manifold here, 3' downpipe custom being done,

This sale sounds good

So why would you post that here? What is better about the IPD tune?

The way I see it is if you go custom with a Dyno Afr's etc. there is little to no difference with other tunes...

mainly because i want feedback about ST vs iPd.

Why would anyone post anything at all on this forum? kthxbye.

Good point, but through simple searches you can see that ST throughout a range is a more aggressive tune and has its lovers and haters, and also I thought you were just bashing and or implying IPD over ST by simply mentioning thats all...

I have, in fact, conducted searches and read the feedback of the ST ECU. The feedback that I have found is generally inconclusive--as you said yourself, there are "lovers and haters." So what does this imply? Probably that the feedback is a bit skewed, innacurate, or otherwise generally misguided. The only thing that I can digest and appreciate with any degree of certainty is that the mere existence of "haters" is enough for me to consider a $800 iPd chip over a $250 ST chip. Again, I am not trying to BASH on this GB. I'm simply relaying the thought process that I have been going through over this exact topic.

Further, I am a proponent of shelling out a greater initial cost for a more refined product or service in order to minimize future problems and expenditures. If the ST chip causes my cars to "run rich" or otherwise over-stress my engine and other internals, I would be hesitant to purchase and use it.

I totally agree. :)

Also ST gets rid of torque limiter in first gear.

Are you implying that as a good or bad thing? That ultimately allows more to go wrong correct?

Did I read that right? It includes S80 T6's?!?!?!?!?!

When does this Group Buy run through as I have very little money now (tux, prom tickets etc) and want to know how much time I have to scrap together some money.

Dyno tuned ST chip in this deal would be 450 ish plus 80 an hour for dyno time.

So for 600 you could have a damn near perfect tune.

ST tunes only run rich if you havent done a good stage zero. This deal is killer and if anyone gets this and doesnt completely like it ill give you 10 bucks

IN MY OPINION:

All of the chips are more or less the same, at least for the basic shelf tunes.

You aren't going to see a noticeable difference between a basic IPD tune, ST tune, or RICA tune. MAYBE in the AFR, but thats it. They will all produce roughly the same amount of horsepower, regardless of what they advertise.

SpeedTuning in my opinion is very reliable. I don't recall anyone having any serious problems with the basic tunes, or with the company. Oliver is a good guy, and I wouldn't be worried about the quality of the tune. You mentioned that you had some modifications coming. If I were you, I would wait to get a tune until I had the modifications installed. Then you should go get a custom tune that will support those modifications.

This is a thread for a GROUP BUY of a SPEEDTUNING chip. If you wanted feedback then you could have searched. If this was called the IPD vs ST opinion thread, then you should have posted.

There are lovers and haters of every product. Some people who pay top dollar for a RICA tune love it, and some hate it. Some people who pay whatever for a ST tune love it, and some hate it. No product is going to have 100% positive feedback.

Do you know what "running rich" is? If you found information stating that the ST tunes typically run rich, and you are curious what that will do to your engine, a simple google search will answer your question. I have dyno'd my car on the ST tune and my AFR was perfect. That same day, another VSer with the same mods and tune dyno'd, and he ran pretty rich. Keep in mind they were using an O2 sniffer. I would be happy to upload my sheet for others to see.

Here is how I see it.

Ipd is completely out of the question for me. Aside from a good reputation, they dont offer anything else in my opinion. The debate is between RICA and ST. RICA is nice because they (for the most part) have a good reputation, and also offer retunes for only $100. The downside is that the initial tune costs $800 (IIRC). SpeedTuning is nice because they offer a very low price compared to competitors, and although their tune is known to run rich, people have still been satisfied. The downside is that their custom tunes are expensive, or at least more than RICA.

If you have the money, go with RICA. If you are on a budget like most of us are, I wouldnt think twice about going with SpeedTuning. If I never planned on getting a custom tune, I would have gone with ST. If I knew I was going to be needed retunes every 6 months because I was constantly upgrading my engine, I would have gone with RICA.

OK, then why are you adding fuel to my fire?

And please find some examples of negative feedback of the iPd chip.

PS i'm PMing you in order to help reduce...noise.
