Modus
Nice... Glad to see this is a help. With my change out, (a little over a year ago) and the new one installed, I smell coolant every now and then comming from my vents when the heat is first turned on, then it dissipates and the smell is gone. I first thought that it could possibly be the O rings on the intake and return lines, or maybe a leak that showed up. So i took the whole thing apart a few months back and found nothing. I replaced the O rings with new ones. So that situation won't be a problem. But still smell a hint of sweet glycol for the first 5 seconds. why is this? Should I put activated carbon in my vents? Guest Mel
Is the process similar for a 2001 V70 XC? I get a little whiff of coolant from time to time when the heat first comes on.keefus Just found this forum today love it! I have a question will this replacement Method will it work on my 1996 850 Gt? I had replaced a little anti frezze one time back in the summer when my coolant light came on, no more problems since. Until I turned my heater on this winter and smell anti freeze, it would go away rather quickly . I would also ocasionally hear my heater fan squeaking when I turned it on and it too would go away fairly quickly? I Thought maybe my blowers fan was going bad but it woked! Then today it all came together turned on my heater the blower fan noise was louder, sounded like somthing was hitting heater fan as it was spinning, looked over at passenger side and see anti frezze on top of carpet! After reading this post Iam thinking heater core and blower! Hopefully this replacement method can be used on my 1996 850 Gt . If so can I change the blower if need? Is it in the same area? Any advise is welcomed! Thanks in advance Mel

Thanks in advance MelBlower motor is sort of in the same area, but is a completely different (and much easier) procedure than heater core replacement, so no it wouldn't really be any easier to do them both at the same time. Okay I ask a lot of question but I am a newbie. The glovebox liner does not need removed for either the core or the motor job, and yes that pic is from an 850 so your car looks just like it. out-door-man
Just replaced the heater core on my V70 with the aid of your site. So easy its untrue. Got heater core off e-bay for £100 not £240 + vat from Volvo. Fits fine and works OK. Thanks for the help. By the way the glove box DOES need removing for a V70 otherwise you can break the supporting tags for the parsel shelf. Be warned.

Right hand, perhaps.
