Mattbchillin
I work in a Hospital and today had a patient tell me he was terminal ill and if he had known what he would have to go through with to fight his illness, he would have taken his own life before and saved his family the hassle of dealing with this illness. This guy was in his early 80's and had lost his wife of almost 55 years already. Got me thinking..So what would you do? Not trying to be morbid but i was just wondering what i would do in these cases...
Fudge_Brownie
Well, I voted for I'll stay kickin with the disease, and try chemotherapy. I'm willing to give it a try. But if it sucks, [abort]. Worth a shot though. I voted take a chance with a disease over Alzheimers however I really can't say I was sure of myself when I picked that. Maybe I forgot what I was doing :P

It makes you beat yourself up wondering if there was anything you could have done to stop them.its a bit of a diffrent situation when your sick but there is always a better option than suicide, i've contemplated it before but I care too much for my friends and family and i've witnessed first hand what they would all go through

Had a relative take his life as he was fighting a terminal illness, it destroyed his kids. Most selfish act he could ever do.
Fudge_Brownie
To play devils advocate, isn't it a bit selfish to expect someone to suffer through the illness just so you can keep them in your life a little longer?

s70turbo1998
To play devils advocate, isn't it a bit selfish to expect someone to suffer through the illness just so you can keep them in your life a little longer? There's definitely a difference to saying no to further treatment and committing suicide. Saying no to further treatment is not selfish, as at that point most every expert is saying that nothing more can be done. Both my grandparents on my dad's side ended up in hospices and it got to the point where it was decided that they would no longer eat/take medicine. They were given an IV of liquid that I'm assuming had some nutrients in it, but that was it. I definitely do not consider that selfish as it was ultimately their choice in their wills. Suicide is taking one's own life ahead of its scheduled time, and is definitely selfish. It makes everyone associated with the person wonder why they couldn't wait it out and rely on others to see them through their last moments. Mattbchillin
I see both sides. If i was dying and there was no way around it and it was painful for everyone. I would say my goodbyes and love you's and check out. No sense in drawing out my demise and putting everyone through a horrible painful death. I have seen people basically melt away and wouldnt want to be remebered like that. But i would defently try some kind of care first before it got to that point. But then again why leave everyone behind when you could give them some more time with you.Hopefully nobody will be faced with this any time soon.Matty Downer :(
