Have You Tried A Cam Swop ?

Recommended Posts

I have them Ill post some specs later...

I'm using cams made by Catcams in Belgium in my NA,

And they were expensive. Let's put it in VS words, way to pricey for most people on this board to even consider. This also because stronger and larger stroke valve springs were needed, double springs btw. A couple of dollars for a spring might appear cheap but with 40 needed things add up.

A Swedish company is offering drop in cams for turbo application. Cams are also made by Catcams and price is near 940 Euro's = 1483 Dollars for cams alone.

I dont think this is unreasonable if they give the desired results. If they will make your engine maintain torque to 8000 rpm it would be worth every penny. so what are the results?

For the specs disappointing but when mentioning that a completely stock unported head was used including a stock exhaust manifold I think the results are more than satisfying.

230+ crank under heavy load.

But this thread was about turbo applications. I just wanted to show that cams can be had for these engine's. Just be aware that <--'98 cams can't be used in '99--> heads because of the different placement of the cam's axial bearing.

w3rd, will be testing these cams on my car in the next few weeks. pulled dynos last weekend with stock base line. we'll see what aaron's cam's aggresive profiles will do. according to the specs everything about an auto t5's power curve will be worse and better. all the bad gets worse, all that's good gets better, but we'll leave that up to the dyno to tell us. my main concern is i don't blow my motor up, and 2nd it's a streetable cam. i don't want to be dealing with a car that goes o-30 in 10 seconds and 30-100 in 3  would suck to get around town.

Anyone know if the cams from the S60r are any hotter than a 2.3L T5 and if they would drop in?

Yes they are somewhat "hotter"

I think the head should be addressed before thousands are spent on cams... NA cams are cool because they spec out better than the turbo cams and generally can be had for next to nothing. If you have the inclination and time, along with a source for them, there is no reason not to. If you are expecting to find the secret weakness of the stock hardware setup, it is not the cams. (start with turbo, manifold, port work)
