Abs, Not Your Typical Computer Prob

Recommended Posts

So, like all trust 850's my abs light has been on for a while. So last year i got a remanned unit, put it in, still, abs light on. Took it to a dealer, who scanned it, said

"8 faults in computer, 3 extrpolation counters l/f, l/r, r/r) needs abs module. rear sensor faults will not erase. declined repair"

So i got another remanned unit under warranty and installed it, and my light is still on. Whats the deal, what should i be looking for here.

anyone have any ideas... i know a lot of people have had problems with abs units.

ABS sensors? Based on message, rear sensor? I belive that unlike the front sensors, the rears come as a unit.

Scott, those ABS sensors very rarely fail. They are magnetic sensors...the best thing you can do to do anything at all would be to remove each sensor and try cleaning them.

Sometimes crud on them could mess up the readings.....the two on the front wheels are really easy to get to and just held on by 10mm bolts.

I don't know about the rear ones, but I suspect they are easy.

clean them up, check the wiring, and then put them back in and RESET the codes....drive around, see which codes come back.

is there any way to check the codes without going to a dealer, or is there a way to reset codes without the vadis scanner...

VOL-FCR will do it, you need a special VAG-COM serial cable which you can get on eBay for around $20.00. Rumor has it that a cracked version of VOL-FCR is floating around on Bit Torrent. ;)

I have sigs turned off, so I don't know what year your car is, but I remember it being a 96, so you'll need a tool or something to reset codes....on my 95, it's different since I can just reset through the diagnostic box under the hood

Ok well it turns out a cheap (20$) serial pcmcia adapter should work with the right settings, so in case anyone is following this, once this thing arrives next week i will be sure to let you know how well it works. Being able to reset the service light, and diag abs faults is worth the price.
