R conversion continued.

As the winter passed and the weather warmed up, I began to get more chances to work on the car. I was originally intending to convert the N/A motor to a turbo, but learned of the vast differences in the turbo vs non turbo motors.

In April 2010 I came across a mint 1998 V70 AWD with a low mileage 2.4L turbo. I bought the motor for $150.00, a TD04-16T turbo for 69.00 plus tax out of a 98 S70 T5, a ECM and TCM from a '96 850 Platinum wagon, and a compatible wiring harness.

For a couple of months, I was having mysterious bacfiring, surging, and stumbling issues, and traced the problem to the fuel system.

Over the conversion, everything was replaced except the: coolant reservoir, brake system, gastank, and suspension. Everyhting else is new.

I got the car running properly in August of 2010, and I am taking a couple months hiatus from any further work on it. I will resume work, mid Autumn 2010. So far the following have been added from the car's original condition:

2.4L turbo motor, SAS delete, turbo exhaust system, turbo components (turbo, intercooler, and radiator), fog lights, Premium SS w cass & CD, trip, WHIPS seats, burled walnut shift knob and center console, luggage net, R badges, roof racks, S70 weather strips.

Still left before the project is complete are: add Alcantara to seats, rear htd seats, TRACS, sunroof, walnut dash, R door inserts, re-upholster carpeting, 2000 R style brakes, custom V90 steering wheel (taking black leather wheel and using tan center pad), 850R rims, 850R front bumper, keyless, and rear wing. The center of the hood and the roof are going to be Platinum Pearl Metallic, and I am seriously considering on painting the remainder of the car Olive Green Pearl. Rubber strips will be painted Infiniti Liquid Platinum Metallic. Here is the car as of August 2010.
