Momentary, Occasional Drop In Rpm

Recommended Posts

Every once in a while, regardles of whether the car is cold or warmed up, the RPM will dip for just a split-second. It's easier to spot it when I'm sitting at a light, but I can swear it feels like it also happens when I'm cruising down the freeway @ 70mph (yeah I know I'm a  ). When I say cruising, I don't mean in cruise control - that hasn't worked since I bought it.

If it's happening at idle you may want to clean your IAC, inspect your TB for build up while you're in the area, maybe clean the electrical portion of the IAC w/ some contact cleaner. You may also want to clean the element in your MAF with some MAF specific cleaner...CNC produces it I beleive....a few things to try, also you can clean the MAF plug prongs with some contact cleaner as well. :)

Also take a look at this....securing the MAF connection.

Does it feel like a hiccup/hesitation when you're cruising? I believe it's ECU related, my S70 does the same thing, I did some poking about, and apparently there is a service bulletin for the issue. I can't find it now, but if you do some searching, it'll turn up. The problem description will sound pretty familiar

For the cruise control, it's possible that the rubber elbow going to the vacuum pump is broken, have a look at it ;)

Yup, and I was mildly freaked out when I first felt it.

Thanks for the info!

If it's the same thing as my issue, don't worry about it. It's not harmful, unless it causes mental anguish knowing that your car isn't behaving. I'm sure if you take it to the dealer and describe the problem, and suggest that there is an ECU update to fix the issue, a good tech may know what you're talking about, and download the update to your ECU

My sisters XC does that occasional drop in rpm (maybe 100-200) for a split second at stop signs. Never figured it out.

Yeah, mine does it anytime with the A/C on, never with it off. Try not using the A/C to find out if it's the problem, or have it tested, don't know how.
