Sirius Installed, Question

I just installed my Sirius sat radio into my car, looks good, I put it where the ash tray used to be.

I followed the directions here http://volvospeed.com/obd2/RCA-preouts1.htm to create an aux input. I followed all of the directions except for a few things. I used computer ribbon wire, and I bought individual pins instead of the 8 pin connector. You can buy the 6 pin connector to solder yourself if you want. I soldered each pin and then shrink wrapped the connection.

I wired 4 rca's instead of two and got a two Y connectors to get all 4 speakers.

Ran the antenna through the seal at the tailgate and down the driver's side, then under the dash to the center.

Maybe I'll post some pics..

Anyway, on to the question that I'm afraid I know the answer to:

is there any way to control the volume with the radio?

Right now, if you turn on the Sirius, it plays at one volume, the radio is still playing, you just need to turn it down. Still the only way to change the volume for the Sat radio is to change the audio out, pretty painful just for volume control.

If I have to buy an aftermarket radio with aux in I will, I just like the look of stock, and the volume leveling...

Thanks

Wait a sec, your using the output mod to try and input??? I would not recommend that. The reason it's playing at a set volume is probably because you are back feeding a signal back into the HU and it's playing it. You would have to use the CD changer input with either a blitzsafe adapter (if you don't have a CD changer) or follow the instructions and find a way to tap into the CD changer wires.

The RCA preout mod is made for outputting to amps and the like. In no way should you attempt to input into that.

Take a look at the picture in the reference section, it clearly says amp. Just following the directions of someone that has done it before, and is apparently more in the know than I. There is a CD plug, I figured that it was the prewire for the changer I don't have..

Basically when you are backfeeding a signal into that amp plug the sirius is putting out a signal and it combines with the radio signal (they apparently aren't isolated in teh stereo like they should be) and amplifies it to the speakers. Hence why teh radio still plays when you have teh serious on unless you turn it down with the volume knob. The only way you're going to be able to do it correctly without having a CD changer is to get a blitzsafe adapter for the CD changer plug and go that route.

BTW: I made that little writeup on the RCA preouts and have a fair amount of knowledge in teh area. Someone was making the adapters cheaper, but I think that post has long since been lost.
