Alfred
Hey guys, well it never fails..... Its 20 or so degrees and falling here in st louis, and now my fan stops blowing. Ok so this is no biggy...i can replace with the help of Bay 13 steps.....my question is i just want to make sure it is only the blower fan and nothing else.Ill start from the beginning. Last few days my ac and recyc light started flashing, which in the manual says prob with the climate control.....prior to this...for around a month my blower fan was squeaking...when the fan was on. Well i get in my 850 this morning and the temperature was the coldest its been here this winter and now the fan doesnt come on. I can make an educated guess and see this is the fan but just wanted to know if there was anything else to look for or check before just replacing the blower? Can somone let me know what the code means if i post them as i dont have a scanner. And also will the climate control lights flash for fault due to a defective blower? Sorry if these have been answered somewhere else, but its cold out and I have read about 30 or so pages and need to get this fixed. I dont want to get into this dash and put it back together without searching for other options or tips i might need to try before putting back together.......also did i mention no garage..so it will be pretty chilly. Thanks all!ps...if someone can recommend a good scanner please do so....Alfred
Bob S
I had the EXACT same symptoms. Fan motor squeking , especially when cold. It started last February a year ago. I ordered a Fan Motor (no blower cage) from FCP Groton On-line last April, but as the weather warmed, it stopped squeeking.Last October it started to get cold and it squeeked (actually screamed) for 2 days, and Then stopped completely, and those same two lights were blinking for A/C and Recirc. I thought the same as you - that something in the climate control went haywire - but checking many posts for the last two years on Volvospeed there was someone else with the lights blinking too - and a new blower motor fixed it.I already had the motor, so I followed Bay 13 instructions for getting the blower assembly out - then since I had the motor ($90. Versus $150. for the whole assembly) I had to drive the shaft out of the blower wheel. I hammered it carefully (took twenty good whacks) supporting it with two 2x4's on edge, with motor hanging underneath. Then used a drift punch to finish driving the shaft out. Remembered that the shaft protruded about 1/16 of an inch from end of blower hub. The bosch motor was identical part no. to the one in the Volvo Blower. And to take the old motor out of assembly there is a single screw at the back, and then once you simply pull the electrical connector out the side, the motor slides out the case. This is about a 1 1/2 - 2hr job - take care not to crack the glove box flange where it screws to the side of the dash with all those screws, and the glove box door comes apart so you can remove the two curved plastic supports so it stays level when open.Oh yes, when I powered up, the lights were not flashing and the blower worked perfect. I did not buy a new resistor - it was expensive, and I did not need it - despite recommendations from others on Volvospeed who said to change it as a matter of "maintenance"???It's -15 F in Milwaukee tonight - must be cold where you are too - I'de find a heated garage. Stamperman
If the car is the 95 listed in your signature line, and it has the dual climate control system then you can pull the codes from the diagnostic box.My alldata account list socket B-1 for the climate control system.Pull the codes and see what you get.4-1-1 is a seized blower fan
