Bazarvospeed
I got a spare ECU in hand , but I want to take out mine to " test " my new ECU. Anything I should be aware of or watch for? Maybe even some steps I have to take? I assume that when I take it out and put the new ECU in .... I let the car idle for about 10 mins to reprogram itself ? sorry if it sounds stupid but i never done it in a volvo. Reason for doing : looking into IPD , anyone got any pointers for a deal or even tell me what to expect in pricing.
magicaljake
yes...you remove the old one (you do know where it is located right?)and replace it with the new one.and i have never heard of letting the car sit for 10 minutes....but i dont' see how that could be a bad thing
matt b
Not trying to sound like a jerk, but 90% of the questions asked in this section are already in the pinned topics. Here are the instructions that I use and that a lot of others use too. No need to do more than that, I've even done that on road trips, there is no negative side effect.Click me

Account_Deleted_T5M
Only advice is not to break the plastic tabs on the computer cover. I broke the side next to the fender on purpose because that one is a oh yeah! to get off, since i'm always reseting the ECU or something
BlackT5
Let the car sit for 10 mins after the engine has been shut off before you pull the ecu.

BlackT5
The ECU is adaptive, it processes data from your last drive for upto like 4 mins after the car is shut off.I'd have to look it back up in v@dis to tell you exactly what it processes. Good Luck!
