SWM
Looks like a need to replace my top motor mount in my 98 S70 (is this the same as the front motor mount?). Im looking to see if anyone who knows how to do this would give me a hand to show me how its done so i will learn. i have an interest in learning some of these repairs, but not the skills and seeing it done is a great way to learn. depending on the needs, we can do it in my driveway, or ill come to you. If anyone offers the help, ill then get the part and we can setup a time to do the work. I'm flexible on times, and will work on your schedule as mine allows. Fudge_Brownie
The top one?http://volvospeed.com/torquerod.htmThat one? If so, thats very simple to do. Will you be replacing with OEM rubber, or poly? (Poly will be easier to replace)
7 VII 7
its pretty easy to get the OEM one out... its best to cut it a little bit then I used a HUGE flat-head screw driver to pry it out... it might seem like it is burned or melted to the arm... but it is not. just really suck in there
SWM
i was thinking of going POLY, unless there is a reason to stick with OEM? The shop I go to said "upper motor mount" so if thats the upper then yes.
JHEIII874T5M
If you're doing it yourself (and you really should try at the least)... then poly is pretty much the only way to go. :)
SWM
the only fear i ever have with trying repairs is if i get stuck and the vehicle isn't drivable. Its my DD so i cant be without it because of a botched repair.

Its my DD so i cant be without it because of a botched repair.if you do not have a mount there it still would be fine to drive.. just not for a long time or long distance.you can not really mess it upjust get that mother out of there and make sure you do not bend the brace/arm... then install POLY and your good to go... should take 3 hours if you are having a horrible time getting it outall going well it should take 30mins
SWM
the repair does look easy enough. Whats the recomended source for the poly mount? Also, would this help a slight vibration issue i have when accelerating? usually at low RPMs? my mechanic said the mount is gone and i'm basically running metal on metal at that mount point. Owned
Even when the mount is shot it is not going to be metal on metal. Poly will cause more vibration than rubber, but it is also much easier to install the poly bushing and it will last longer than rubber.

SWM
got ya. if this mount is easy to change, why is the lifespan of the part taking priority over vibration/comfort?

I got one from eeuroparts.com and it is not the same quality :(
SWM
In looking for the OEM part, i see other motor mounts, we are clear this is the only mount known as the Upper Motor Mount? Also, how can i confirm its bad visually?
Owned
http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/prod...category_id/110Look at the mount. Rubber ripped apart = bad mount.
