Guest MLH
I just purchased the odometer kit from IPD (IPDUSA.COM) for $50. Comes with a DVD instruction video. The dealer quoted $360 to fix it.MikeWhere do I go for the detailed instructions to replace the gears? I found the site, odometergears.com, for the purchase of the two gears but I need instructions. Help.←

Guest Guest_Dave_*
Some people have asked which odometer gear they should purchase to repair the Volvo 850. After tearing my dash apart twice, my answer is BOTH, I replaced the smaller gear two years ago and everything worked fine until this past summer. I finally decided to fix the thing and went to odometergears.com to purchase another gear. This time, the site included a detailed discussion about why you should replace both gears at the same time. I took their advice and purchased both gears. When I dismantled the odometer, the problem was immediately apparent. The thing was filled with broken pieces of the larger gear (the smaller gear was fine). I cleaned everything out and adjusted the mileage to match the reading from the onboard diagnostic port. I only wished I had purchased both gears to begin with. It would have saved me from tearing my dash apart one more time than necessary.
grocerygetter
Ok so here are some pictures to add to this thread. The whole unit out on my kitchen table, be sure to take off the boost line carefully, it can crack. Also the three middle screws are some very small torx size, they are a pain to get out, I had to file down a small glasses screw driver to get them out. Also there is a 8mm nut that needs to come off the back of the boost gauge. Ok here it is with the circuit board off, slowly pry it off, no need to rush it. Looking at everything off, the odometer is connected by a small little circuit that pulls straight up and off.You need to take off the two smallest screws closest to you.Put in the two new gears like so, make sure the smaller gear is flush to the other gear. You can see the small little problem at about 10 oclock.Back in, reassemble. RAzOR
Pras got it. Just remove the brass nut at the back and off it comes off with the face. I did not do this and broke it. Luckily Testers hobby glue worked like a charm.BEWARE, I used that site and he did not have a turbo gauge so that step is not in there.I have a 40 step odo gear fix page by one of my users named Rox:http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/odometer_fix.phpgrocerygetter's photos are also very good.Hope this helps,Matt
